Data Steward III - Customer Data Products-2
OVERVIEW:

Identifies customer data from internal systems of record and 3rd party sources, classifies data, understands business data requirements, complete data mapping and translate requirements and mapping into technical specifications.  Maintain metadata documentation, definitions, transformation logic and data lineage.  Maintain and improve data quality through issue identification, management, and remediation.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:Identify the most accurate data field(s) when domain and system of record data is sourced for internal projects and/or products by querying data sources and databases.  Maintain knowledge of domain's products and services, and an understanding of how data supports those offerings.Maintain accurate metadata, definitions and lineage on all domain data using industry-standard governance platforms.Complete user acceptance testing tasks to ensure data sourcing and development meets business requirements.Translate business data needs into data requirements and technical specifications with guidance from source systems SMEs and technical partners.Classify data assets to meet regulatory and privacy requirements, including identifying personally identifiable information (PII) and payment card information (PCI) data with guidance from source system and business SMEs and more senior team members.Evaluate, identify, and investigate data issues to ensure quality of the final data product.  Participate in coordinating and implementing of data issue resolutions with data product teams.Support deployment of data quality rules and verification that rules accommodate domain specific nuances.Identify the correct data fields(s) to meet business requirements and monitor adherence to internal data sharing agreements.Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite.  Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.Complete other related duties as assigned.

ABOUT THIS ROLE:

As a Data Steward, you will be a part of an agile team obsessed with delivering innovation and tasked with creating and maintaining a best-in-class Customer 360 Data Management Platform.   The Data Steward plays a key role within the team who is relied upon to know everything there is to know about the authoritative data sources for customer data and to guide our customer data requirements, data mapping, sourcing development, documentation, data ingress into and data egress out of the Customer 360 Data Management Platform. 

As a Data Steward, we will immediately leverage your experience and data knowledge to help the team identify, source, develop and test customer data that enables our data enablement, campaign development,  business analytics partners and sr. management to derive better strategic insights, improve the customer experience, make a positive impact to our communities all while building upon your leadership skills.

You will be assigned to an agile team where you will quickly develop a deep knowledge of our multiple bank applications, bank systems and business processes.  As your knowledge grows, you will be asked to create detailed data requirements, identify appropriate data sources, and enhance the Customer 360 Data Management Platform for the purpose of driving incremental business value and informing strategic business decisions.

As a Data Steward, you will help the Product Owner, Technical Product Owner and Data Enablement Team with agile sprint planning, backlog refinement and development demos with business partners, participate in daily stand-ups and sprint retrospectives.  You will be a “go to” resource for the Customer 360 Data Management Platform across the Business, Data and Technology departments.  You will be expected to assist and mentor less experience team members. 

Our team follows a standard Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and as a Data Steward you will have a leadership role throughout the sourcing and data development process.  You will lead the effort to identify and receive sign-off for sourcing new data sets.  You will work with stakeholders and the domain(s) to translate their needs into technical specifications that provide clear direction to data engineers and data enablement partners.

Once the developers have completed integrated systems testing, you will coordinate and execute user acceptance test plans and scripts based on the business requirements to test the results and acquire stakeholder and QA/QC approvals as needed before deploying to the production environment.

You will support the Product Owner by ensuring the Customer 360 Data Management Platform meets all data reference, data privacy, data security and data quality requirements:

Document metadata, data definitions and lineage from source to consumption views in ConfluenceIdentify source system data updates and changes from domain specific or enterprise projects to ensure development is prioritized and completed to avoid critical data disruptions  Classify data types and data restrictions to meet regulatory and privacy requirements, including identifying PII and PCI dataSupport the Data Quality team by deploying data quality rules from source to stage and verifying DQ rules accommodate domain specific nuancesAssist with third party data ingestion and ensure data is used according to user contracts and internal complianceMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years related experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 7 years higher education and/ or work experience, including a minimum of 3 years related experienceKnowledge of relational databases and database architectureKnowledge of common data issuesBasic knowledge of data managementAdvanced skills in Standard Query Language (SQL)Basic knowledge of statistics, data science techniques and toolsStrong communication and writing skills

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $82,783.41 - $137,972.36 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
