Data Scientist

Data Scientist
Location:  Brussels (Belgium), or Amsterdam (Netherlands)
Contract: Permanent

Use data to help decarbonise Europe’s industrial heat systems.

A leading European energy technology company is looking for a Data Scientist to focus on the growing field of industrial heat decarbonisation. If you’re curious about the intersection of data science, clean energy, and large-scale impact—this role offers the chance to work on exactly that.

As part of a dynamic data team, you’ll help evaluate and optimise Power-to-Heat technologies such as electric boilers, heat pumps, and thermal storage. Your work will inform real-time decision-making, influence investment strategy, and contribute directly to reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

What you’ll do

This role blends analytical thinking, technical expertise, and a genuine interest in the energy transition. You’ll work across three main areas:

Simulation & Backtesting (40%)

Develop tools to simulate heat asset performance in various market and operational conditions

Design backtesting systems to test the business and technical viability of different optimisation strategies

Tailored Asset Analysis (40%)

Dive into custom studies for complex energy systems—such as sites combining heat, solar, wind, and storage

Use detailed consumption/load profile data to assess how flexible and efficient each configuration can be

Data Visualisation & Monitoring (20%)

Build intuitive dashboards to track energy production, consumption, and performance KPIs

Provide clear, data-driven insights for internal teams and external partners

What we’re looking for

Core requirements

Fluency in English and either French or Dutch (additional languages are a plus)

Advanced Python skills with practical experience using libraries like pandas, numpy, and scikit-learn

Experience working with large-scale databases and cloud data tools (e.g. Google BigQuery or similar)

Ability to design, test, and iterate on algorithms used in forecasting, simulation, or optimisation

Bonus points for

Previous experience working with energy systems or industrial data

Familiarity with API integrations and automated data pipelines

A background in modelling thermal assets or renewable/hybrid setups

Soft skills that will help you succeed

A proactive, curious mindset and the confidence to challenge assumptions

The ability to work independently while staying aligned with broader goals

Comfort translating technical findings into real-world business recommendations

An interest in new technologies, even outside your immediate expertise

Why this opportunity stands out

Tangible impact: Your work supports the transition away from fossil-based heating in European industry

Agile structure: A fast-paced, scale-up environment with the backing of a major international energy group

Learning & collaboration: Work alongside experienced professionals across data, engineering, and energy markets

Hybrid working: Enjoy flexible working conditions, including two remote days per week

International scope: Collaborate across country teams and participate in company-wide events and initiatives
