A leading European energy technology company is looking for a Data Scientist to focus on the growing field of industrial heat decarbonisation. If you’re curious about the intersection of data science, clean energy, and large-scale impact—this role offers the chance to work on exactly that.
As part of a dynamic data team, you’ll help evaluate and optimise Power-to-Heat technologies such as electric boilers, heat pumps, and thermal storage. Your work will inform real-time decision-making, influence investment strategy, and contribute directly to reducing dependence on fossil fuels.
What you’ll doThis role blends analytical thinking, technical expertise, and a genuine interest in the energy transition. You’ll work across three main areas:
Simulation & Backtesting (40%)
Develop tools to simulate heat asset performance in various market and operational conditions
Design backtesting systems to test the business and technical viability of different optimisation strategies
Tailored Asset Analysis (40%)
Dive into custom studies for complex energy systems—such as sites combining heat, solar, wind, and storage
Use detailed consumption/load profile data to assess how flexible and efficient each configuration can be
Data Visualisation & Monitoring (20%)
Build intuitive dashboards to track energy production, consumption, and performance KPIs
Provide clear, data-driven insights for internal teams and external partners
What we’re looking forCore requirements
Fluency in English and either French or Dutch (additional languages are a plus)
Advanced Python skills with practical experience using libraries like pandas, numpy, and scikit-learn
Experience working with large-scale databases and cloud data tools (e.g. Google BigQuery or similar)
Ability to design, test, and iterate on algorithms used in forecasting, simulation, or optimisation
Bonus points for
Previous experience working with energy systems or industrial data
Familiarity with API integrations and automated data pipelines
A background in modelling thermal assets or renewable/hybrid setups
