Description:
Are you passionate about applying data science to real-world business problems? Do you want to gain hands-on experience in a global enterprise environment? We are seeking a junior-level Data Scientist to support the development of a machine learning solution within our Finance business domain, reporting to the Central Data Office (CDO). This role will contribute to the automation of statutory fixed asset capitalization processes, helping to reduce manual effort, improve compliance, and deliver business value through AI.
You will work closely with data scientists, product owners, and finance stakeholders to build and validate a solution that recommends whether purchase order items should be capitalized. This is a great opportunity to gain experience across the ML lifecycle, from data preparation to model development and integration into business workflows.
Key Responsibilities
• Support the development of a classification model to recommend capitalization of decisions for purchase order items, using structured and semi-structured financial data.
• Collaborate with the product owner and finance stakeholders to understand business rules and translate them into model features and logic.
• Assist in preparing and cleaning datasets, including text-based fields, for model training and evaluation.
• Contribute to the development of explainable AI outputs to justify model predictions in a way that supports auditability and user trust.
• Participate in the development of a PowerApp-based user interface that integrates model outputs and allows finance controllers to review and adjust recommendations.
• Help implement exception handling logic for cases where the model is uncertain or data is missing.
• Work with the team to ensure model outputs are written back to a structured database format and can be exported for reporting or integration with SAP.
• Support documentation, testing, and knowledge transfer activities as part of the project’s Definition of Done.
-Bachelor’s degree in a STEM-related field (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or related discipline). Master’s degree is a plus.
Experience
• 2–4 years of experience in data science or machine learning roles, preferably in a business or enterprise setting.
• Experience working with classification models and structured datasets.
• Familiarity with text preprocessing and feature extraction techniques.
• Exposure to MLOps concepts such as model versioning, reproducibility, and monitoring is a plus.
• Experience working in cross-functional teams and collaborating with business stakeholders.
Skills
• Proficient in Python and common data science libraries (e.g., pandas, scikit-learn, numpy, matplotlib).
• Familiarity with tools such as Jupyter, Git, and SQL.
• Understanding of model evaluation metrics (accuracy, precision, recall, F1 score).
• Ability to communicate technical findings clearly and concisely.
• Fluent in Databricks. Working knowledge of PowerApps and/or SAP is a plus but not required.
