Minimum qualifications:
+ Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Economics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
+ 5 years of experience using analytics to solve product or business problems, coding (e.g., Python, R, SQL), querying databases or statistical analysis, or a PhD degree
+ 2 years of experience as an Energy Analyst or equivalent, working with energy system data.
+ Experience with optimization software (e.g., cvx, Gurobi), statistical software (e.g., R, Python), and database languages (e.g., SQL).
Preferred qualifications:
+ PhD in Electrical Engineering, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Economics, or a related field.
+ 4 years of work experience (e.g., Energy Analyst, Trader, System Operator), applying advanced analytics to energy systems, planning, control, and learning problems (university, national labs, electric utility companies).
+ Experience designing performance-based energy systems optimization and control algorithms.
+ Experience designing and building statistical forecasting models and machine learning models.
+ Excellent problem-framing, problem-solving, project management, customer service, and team collaboration skills.

Our team delivers globally optimal solutions, reducing infrastructure investments, operating costs, and electricity-based CO2 emissions of Google’s fleet by optimizing network, compute, storage, power, and carbon together.
In this role, you will leverage energy domain knowledge and versatile analytic skills to develop solutions for efficient, scalable, and carbon-aware management of Google-scale energy assets, with a primary focus on sustainable computing and AI. You will have an extensive optimization and statistics background, coding experience, and working knowledge of energy market data.
You will be analyzing data, and also collaborate with Google’s Energy and Policy Strategists, Engineers, and Product Managers, adjusting compute, AI, and energy management systems based on findings. You are expected to apply your deep understanding of systems analysis and control, energy market dynamics, optimization, statistical knowledge, and coding to develop methods solving issues related to carbon-aware computing, optimal energy asset sizing, market participation, forecasting, and scalable control. You will work with different stakeholders, driving innovation of our computing and energy systems while improving efficiency and global environmental impact. You will also think critically and strategically about Google’s fleet-wide energy assets, cloud technology, business operations, and their environmental impact.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $166,000-$244,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. + Lead projects on energy systems or market analysis and modeling or optimization, selecting appropriate investigative methods and complexity for business issues.
+ Engage to identify, prioritize, frame, and structure complex, ambiguous energy issues where advanced analytics can have the biggest impact.
+ Identify and communicate key issues and opportunities for the groups focus.
+ Help define investigative direction and influence associated engineering and infrastructure work.
+ Articulate business questions, use mathematical techniques with data to find answers, and translate analysis results into business recommendations.
