As the Data Governance Lead, reporting to the VP, Data and Analytics, you will be responsible for advancing Element’s enterprise data governance strategy, delivering key initiatives to improve data quality and compliance, and enabling a data-driven culture through stewardship, training, and operational excellence.

A Day in the Life

Drive Element’s Data Governance maturity framework to Gartner Level 4.Collaborate with Data Governance Council, business units, stewards, and custodians to identify risks, prioritize investments, and implement mitigation strategies.Lead the development and execution of strategic roadmaps, policies, and procedures for data governance.Mentor and train staff on data governance tools and processes to build organizational capability.Maintain enterprise dashboards with KPIs, initiative status, and risk mitigation tracking.Conduct research on regulatory compliance requirements and evolving DG tools and methodologies.Ensure accurate data definitions, quality controls, classification inventories, and governance metadata in platforms such as business glossaries and catalogs.Develop and deliver internal data literacy programs and training.Partner with business stakeholders to embed data governance best practices in project planning and operational activities.Support compliance assessments across Canadian, U.S., and Mexican regulatory environments.

Requirements

5–7 years of experience in the data industry, including 2+ years in Data Governance roles.Post-secondary education in Technology, Business Operations, or a related field.

Knowledge & Competencies

Deep understanding of Data Governance frameworks, Data Quality principles, and industry standards.Experience with governance platforms (e.g., Collibra, Talend).Intermediate skills in SQL and Big Data platforms.Strong communication, business acumen, and ability to collaborate with senior stakeholders.Understanding of compliance frameworks and regulatory reporting.Comfortable working in cloud-based data environments.Familiarity with Power BI, SAP Business Objects, Atlassian tools (JIRA/Confluence), Python, and advanced SQL is a plus.Fleet management knowledge is an asset.

The hiring base salary range for this position is $99,200 - $136,400 annually. Actual compensation within this range will be dependent upon the individual’s knowledge, skills, experience, equity with other team members, and alignment with market data. Please note that the disclosed salary range is solely for candidates hired to perform work within this geographic location. Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location.
