A growing pharmaceutical company is seeking a senior, strategic, and hands-on Data Governance Lead to lead the enterprise data governance program across finance, R&D, Commercial, and business functions. He/she will be responsible for implementing data governance policies, creating use cases for the business, and holding the relationship with the data governance vendors. The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of data governance frameworks and demonstrate hands-on experience with tools such as Alation for data cataloging, lineage, stewardship, and governance enablement. Alation is the chosen tool, and this resource will ensure that it is being adopted across the organization. This role has high visibility, so it is important that he/she has strong communication skills, is organized, and can present finding when needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Establish and lead the data governance strategy, framework, and operating model across the enterprise.
Define data ownership, stewardship, and accountability roles in collaboration with business and IT stakeholders.
Develop and enforce policies, standards, and procedures to ensure data quality, consistency, privacy, and compliance.
Partner with data owners and stewards to catalog and classify data using Alation or similar tools.
Implement metadata management, data lineage, and data quality practices in coordination with Data Engineering and Data Architecture teams.
Support regulatory compliance (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA) by ensuring data handling practices meet required standards.
Drive user adoption and change management for data governance initiatives across departments.
Deliver regular reports on data governance KPIs, maturity assessments, and areas for improvement.
Serve as the subject matter expert and champion for data governance across the enterprise.
Compensation:
$70/hour to $80/hour
Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.
Benefit packages for this role will start on the 31st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as HSA, FSA, and DCFSA account options, and 401K retirement account access with employer matching. Employees in this role are also entitled to paid sick leave and/or other paid time off as provided by applicable law.

Skills and Requirements
7+ years of experience in data governance in life science industry (healthcare is also acceptable)
Demonstrated experience with Alation for data cataloging and governance. (Collibra is also acceptable)
Strong knowledge of data governance frameworks, best practices, and toolsets. (able to speak to the kind of framework they followed)
Familiarity with data privacy regulations and compliance requirements (Hippa & GDPR)
Leadership experience and ability to present information to high level executives Helped build up a data governance strategy in an organization
Worked in an org with an immature or less adopted data governance framework
Experience working with a Vendor on a product, platform, etc and building a relationship with that vendor null
