**Astraeus Operations (AO)** is an SBA-certified 8(a) Small Disadvantaged Business (SBD) subsidiary of the Chenega Corporation, an Alaska Native Corporation (ANC). The **Data Engineer** will be part of a dynamic team that provides IT support, maintenance, operations, logistics, and engineering services to help ensure the secure, reliable, and uninterrupted availability of INL/A Management Information Systems. This role will provide data engineering support to the Department of State, Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Office of Aviation (INL/A) in support of their missions to sustain the national security and economic interests of our nation.
**Responsibilities**
+ Plan and execute data migration strategies, including data mapping, transformation, validation, and reconciliation across legacy and modern systems.
+ Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL processes to support enterprise data integration and analytics.
+ Collaborate cross-functionally with software engineers and business stakeholders to ensure data solutions meet mission objectives and compliance standards.
+ Troubleshoot and resolve complex data-related issues in mission-critical government systems, ensuring high availability and data integrity.
+ Support testing, deployment, and monitoring of data workflows, APIs, and data-driven applications.
+ Design and implement data warehouse solutions, including dimensional modeling, data integration, and optimization for reporting and analytics.
+ Work with project managers and stakeholders to gather data requirements, define timelines, and establish milestones for data engineering initiatives.
+ Develop data solutions in accordance with industry’s best practices and federal security standards, including FISMA compliance.
+ Schedule and manage maintenance windows for data infrastructure updates, feature rollouts, and bug fixes.
+ Participate in the full agile development lifecycle, including design, implementation, and testing of data engineering components using a wide variety of SQL tools.
+ Travel may be required for special data-related projects (CONUS, OCONUS).
+ Perform other duties as assigned.
**Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's degree OR
+ Associate's degree with 2+ years of relevant experience
+ 4+ years of relevant experience.
+ Secret clearance required.
**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:**
+ Experience in planning and executing data migration strategies, including mapping, transformation, validation, and reconciliation.
+ Proficient in SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) for developing and managing ETL workflows and data migration processes.
+ Proficient in Power BI, including Power BI as a Service, for building and deploying interactive dashboards and enterprise-level reporting solutions that align with business intelligence requirements.
+ Familiarity with Azure Cloud, including services such as Azure SQL Managed Instances, Azure Data Factory, and Azure Synapse Analytics.
+ Extensive experience in data engineering and software development, including requirements analysis, data pipeline design, integration, testing, and troubleshooting.
+ Proven ability to plan and execute complex data-centric projects, providing expert-level consultation and technical leadership.
+ Experience supporting operations and maintenance (O&M) of mission-critical data systems, ensuring reliability and performance.
+ Skilled in working directly with users and stakeholders to diagnose and resolve complex data and system issues.
+ Strong technical writing skills with experience documenting data workflows, architecture, and engineering processes.
+ Proficient in Windows and Linux environments, including basic system administration and scripting for automation.
+ Hands-on experience with SQL Server and shell scripting for data manipulation and system tasks.
+ Strong understanding of cloud-native principles and architectures, including scalability, resilience, and agility.
+ Demonstrated experience in refactoring monolithic systems into microservices and modular data services.
+ Familiarity with cloud-native tools and services such as AWS ECS/EKS, Azure Kubernetes Service, and Google Kubernetes Engine.
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills for translating business needs into technical data solutions.
