Based in Tokyo, the Amazon ARTS (APEX-RoW Technology Solutions) team designs, builds, operates, and scales the data infrastructure powering Amazon Operations across RoW (the rest of the world excl. You will contribute to the ML and data platform, which enables various ML and analytical solutions for Amazon Japan. Leveraging your deep experience in data infrastructure and passion for enabling data-driven business impact, you will work closely with software development engineer, business intelligence engineers and business teams to identify and implement strategic data opportunities.
Key job responsibilities
Your key responsibilities include:
- Build ML and data solutions with AWS services such as Redshift, S3, Glue, Lambda, SageMaker, CloudWatch etc.
- Design and implement of data pipelines and ETL processes to support operational needs.
- Develop and improve the operational excellence, data quality, monitoring and data governance.
- Contribute to the development of data governance policies and procedures.
- Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues in production environments.

- Attend daily standup to give status updates
- Develop ML and data platform and get feedback from other engineers.

About the team
The Amazon ARTS (APEX-RoW Technology Solutions) team is responsible for creating core analytics tech capabilities and data engineering services for RoW (the rest of the world excl. NA and EU) countries. It comprises of platforms development, research science, software development and data engineering. ARTS develops scalable analytics applications and research modeling to optimize operation processes. The team standardizes and optimizes data sources and visualization efforts across geographies, builds up and maintains the online BI services and data mart.
At ARTS, data engineers, data scientists, business intelligence engineers and product managers use rigorous quantitative approaches to ensure that we target to provide high quality data tech products to our customers around the world, including India, Japan, Australia, Brazil, Mexico, Singapore, Turkey and MENA.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a related technical discipline.
- 3+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role.
- 3+ years of experience with data modeling, data warehousing, ETL/ELT pipelines and BI tools.
- Experience with cloud-based big data technology stacks (e.g., Hadoop, Spark, Redshift, S3, EMR, Glue, SageMaker, DynamoDB etc.)
- Knowledge of data management and data storage principles.
- Expert-level proficiency in writing and optimizing SQL.
- Ability to write code in Python for data processing.
- Business level English (written and verbal)
- Business level in Japanese language (verbal and written).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with AWS technologies (e.g., Lambda, CloudWatch, QuickSight, Athena, RDS, etc.).
- Experience in MLOps, generative AI, large language models (LLMs), and collaborating with data science teams.
- Experience providing technical leadership and mentoring other engineers on best practices for data engineering.
- Experience in software engineering - agile processes, coding standards/reviews, source control, CI/CD, testing, deployment, and production operations.
