We are seeking a lead data solution architect who can help us create that connection by guiding Starbucks enterprise data modeling, data architecture design, data governance, data integration and performance optimization.

As a lead data solution architect of our Enterprise and Solution Architecture team, this role is responsible for working with business and engineering team to design solution for ingesting, processing and syndicating data. The data solution architect ensures data are well organized for accessibility, security and reliability by maintaining data frameworks, models, and policies. They translate business needs into technical solutions. Meanwhile, they ensure the data follow best practice and enterprise standard to ensure long term healthy and success of the data platform.

In this role, you will…

Data Modeling: Creating conceptual, logical, and physical data models to represent how data is structured and used across the enterprise.  Data Architecture Design: Providing solution architecture for specific business requirements as well as the overall enterprise data ecosystem. Developing and providing guidance on enterprise best practices for data ingestion, processing, and integration  Data Governance: Establishing policies, standards, and procedures for data quality, security, and access to ensure data integrity and compliance.  Data Lake Design and Management: Designing, implementing, and maintaining data lake to support reporting, analytics, AI/ML and other business requirements.  Data Integration: Ensuring data from different sources can be seamlessly integrated and accessed.  Performance Optimization: Monitoring database/data lake performance and identifying areas for improvement to ensure efficient data access and processing. 

Skills and experiences that will help you excel in this role…

Technical Skills:

In-depth knowledge in architecting and implementing data Lakehouse platforms, including strong experience with Databricks platform and Unity Catalog.  Experience with data management principles and best practices, including data governance frameworks using Collibra tool. Ability to create and manage conceptual, logical and physical data models, data definitions, data dictionaries. Experience with data modeling tool such as ER Studio. Ability to define, apply, review, and improve enterprise standards in object naming conventions, business vocabularies, and data models.  Strong experience in designing data solutions to address data standards and principles both from functional and technical requirements perspective. Experience in Azure cloud and data bricks platform, AI/ML, reporting and analytics tools and technologies. Good understanding of master data and metadata management procedures to ensure data accuracy, consistency and compliance.  Experience in working closely with data engineers, data scientists to optimize data integration workflows for scalability, cost management and service level agreements (SLAs).  Knowledge of hub and spoke data architecture and data mesh principles is a plus.   Proficiency in defining and developing ontologies, business taxonomies, and extended object metadata is a plus.

Experience in working closely with multiple technical teams to review and document data solution architecture. Experience with collaborating with stakeholders to understand data needs and translating business requirements into actionable solution design

Your education, training, and experience should include…

Eight or more years of architecture, data, and/or IT experience Two or more years knowledge data modeling and/or engineering Two or more years of data cataloging and/or classification Two or more years of data engineering and/or data transformation

*If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above.  For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity.  At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
