What is the opportunity?
As a member of Core Data Services, you will play a role in supporting RBC Capital Markets’ first line data solutions and delivery. This is a unique opportunity to assist the execution of key components of our first line data strategy including: centralized exception handling, data quality issue management, and data quality control design and implementation.
This role will face off directly with members of various regulatory operations teams, stakeholders from Capital Markets desks, and stakeholders within Business and Client Services (BCS).
You will be called on to find solutions to complicated data issues. Specifically, you will have to understand data flows, design data quality controls, support implementation of controls, and identify data and process gaps.
As a member of a dynamic, fast paced team, this role brings strong data analysis skills, effective written and verbal communication skills, a strong work ethic, and a demonstrated capability to multi-task effectively. This role requires strong interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills as well as a demonstrated sense of urgency to respond to changing priorities at times. This is complemented by a positive attitude and a willingness to take accountability for results achieved.
What will you do?
Understand data flows and transformations that are relevant to data usage.
Perform analysis to identify data issues and support remediation team with resolution of these issues.
Responsible for large scale multi-way comparisons of data against various internal and external sources to identify trends and to measure overall data quality.
Profile data and develop new data quality rules and controls, and work with implementation teams to ensure that controls align to business needs.
Support the refinement of controls as requirements evolve.
Collaborate with stakeholders to understand the business needs to effectively profile data and design data quality controls.
Monitor data quality controls and investigate data exceptions.
Trend exceptions to identify the root cause of issues, and to develop solutions to address problems.
Support internal Core DS teams with triage of data quality exceptions, as well as remediation of data issues.
Utilize advanced pattern recognition and machine learning where applicable to uncover relationships between different data elements.
Identify and coordinate system and process enhancements and improvements.
Understand and align to organization's standard for metadata management.
Produce metrics and reporting to demonstrate the effectiveness of controls and process amendments.
Utilize visualization tools to develop dashboards to aid business decisions.
What you need to succeed?
University degree or College Diploma or any equivalent combination of qualifications and/or experience
2 - 3 years’ experience in Data Analysis, Data Quality, or equivalent role
Understanding of data management principles including but not limited to Data quality, metadata management, data lineage ; and possess the ability to analyze and profile large datasets
Excellent data analysis skills, including strong experience with SQL and Python to generate custom queries and analysis
Leveraging Excel to link disparate data sets and trend data.
Competence with Tableau for data visualization
Strong organizational and time management skills
Excellent problem-solving skills and analytical thinking
Effective verbal and written communication skills, to effectively liaise with various stakeholders and partners
Curious and investigative nature towards problems
Continuous self-development
Experience in a Capital Markets industry, with understanding of various financial instruments (nice to have)
