Job Title: Cytotechnologist Job Description As a Cytotechnologist, you will prepare and stain cytological specimens using established laboratory techniques. You will perform microscopic examinations of gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens to identify cellular abnormalities, document findings accurately, and flag abnormal results for pathologist review. You will maintain specimen integrity, ensure proper labeling and documentation, and collaborate with pathologists and other lab personnel to discuss findings and clarify diagnoses. Participation in quality control and quality assurance activities is essential, along with maintaining equipment and ensuring a clean, safe laboratory environment. Staying current with advances in cytology and participating in continuing education is also expected. Responsibilities + Prepare and stain cytological specimens using established laboratory techniques. + Perform microscopic examination of gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens to identify cellular abnormalities. + Accurately document findings and flag abnormal results for pathologist review. + Maintain specimen integrity and ensure proper labeling and documentation. + Collaborate with pathologists and other lab personnel to discuss findings and clarify diagnoses. + Participate in quality control and quality assurance activities. + Maintain equipment and ensure a clean, safe laboratory environment. + Stay current with advances in cytology and participate in continuing education. Essential Skills + Bachelor’s degree in a biological science or related field. + Completion of a 12-month training program in an NCCLC-approved school of Cytotechnology. + Minimum of 1 year of experience in a clinical cytology laboratory. + Strong knowledge of cytological techniques and diagnostic criteria. + Familiarity with laboratory information systems and digital imaging tools. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Certification as a Cytotechnologist (CT-ASCP) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology. + Experience with both gynecologic and non-gynecologic cytology. + Exposure to molecular and cytogenetic laboratory workflows. Work Environment You will be working in a large laboratory with over 150 employees among 12 internal laboratory departments. The environment is fast-paced and innovative, supporting various service lines of the Medical Center.
