Summary
JOB SUMMARYEnsures that all services are delivered in accordance with the mission statement and SPIRIT values of Carroll Hospital Center. The cytotechnologist is responsible for preparing and screening all cytologic specimens, assisting on fine needle procedures and interpreting findings under the direction of a pathologist as described in the regulatory standards. The cytotechnologist follows laboratory policies and procedures in accordance with all regulatory agency requirements CAP, JCAHO, OSHA, CLIA. The cytotechnologist determines that test results meet requirements of the quality control program and if not met, repeats test and ensures results are approved for reporting following department policy and maintaining all necessary records and documentation. The cytotechnologist is expected to utilize critical thinking skills and complex problem solving in the resolution of clinical and instrument problems.
REQUIREMENTS Required Bachelor's Degree Bachelors degree in in clinical laboratory science, one of the specialties in Cytology, or one of chemical sciences. Bachelors degree requirement may be waived by the manager if appropriately licensed depending on amount and type of experience. 2-4 years Required Cytologist - Board Registered or specialist in Cytology by recognized credentialing board Eligible to become Registered LC - Licensed Cytologist
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
Interpersonal communication skills, both written and oral are required in order to effectively interact with hospital personnel and outside contacts.
