We’re looking for a Cyber Security Specialist – Embedded Systems to join our Cryptographic Onboard Squad, where you’ll help shape the future of secure mobility. In this role, you’ll be at the heart of protecting the digital core of our vehicles, working on the security of Electronic Control Units (ECUs) and collaborating with both internal teams and external partners to develop and refine advanced cybersecurity software components.
You’ll take the lead in designing and delivering robust, real-world security solutions that are technically sound and aligned with our wider engineering strategy. From hands-on development to project delivery and documentation, your work will directly impact the safety, resilience, and innovation of our next-generation vehicles.

WHAT TO EXPECT
In this role, you’ll play a key part in delivering high-quality outcomes and supporting the wider team through a range of responsibilities, including –
Design, implement, and review advanced cryptographic cyber security solutions, with hands-on involvement in secure code development across embedded platforms Develop, document, and maintain JLR’s cyber security software guidelines, ensuring alignment with industry best practices and evolving security standards Lead technical reviews of software security practices, identify gaps, and recommend improvements to enhance system security, reliability, and compliance Collaborate closely with internal engineering teams and Tier 1 suppliers to ensure adherence to cyber security guidelines, offering expert technical support throughout the development lifecycle Provide strategic advice to cyber security leadership on operational security matters and the protection of critical infrastructure, contributing to the organisation’s overall cyber resilience
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
We’re looking for someone with the right blend of experience, qualifications, and practical skills, including –
Strong expertise in C and C++ programming, with a solid understanding of secure coding practices and familiarity with standards such as CERT C and CERT C++ Hands-on experience in user-space development for POSIX-based systems (e.g. QNX, Linux, or Android) within embedded environments, including working with TrustZone-backed trusted applications and integrating cryptographic libraries Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, along with practical experience using cryptographic libraries like PKCS#11, OpenSSL, or similar Background in the automotive sector, ideally with experience in cyber security engineering or security research related to vehicle systems Ability to contribute from the early stages of concept development through to writing comprehensive technical requirements Excellent technical, analytical, and communication skills, with the confidence to engage across multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders
