In this role, the Import Specialist will be primarily responsible for identifying new procedures and methods to expedite clearance of import shipments, delivery to the customer, and cost savings plans for the efficient and compliant operation of the Customs Department. The Import Specialist approves and monitors payments of broker invoices for assigned accounts, working to minimize premium clearance fees. The Import Specialist will be a pivotal member of our team, serving as the key subject matter expert in import operations. This individual will manage all aspects of the import process with minimal supervision and lead this area of expertise for the business unit.
Key Accountabilities:
Ensures proper cost management by recommending strategies to reduce cost and improve procedures.Determines reorder points and ensures that sufficient levels of inventory are maintained.Minimizes premium freight.Communicates releases to vendors and keeps vendors informed of Company’s production plans for the next few days as well as future months.Assesses vendor delivery performance and sends excess material back to the vendor.Analyzes and revises shipment plans.Works with other departments to ensure customer satisfaction and accuracy of shipment records.Leads, schedules, and coordinates the efficient distribution of products to satisfy customer demand.Reviews master production schedule and work orders, establishes priorities for specific customer orders, and revises schedule according to work order specifications. Establishes priorities and availability or capability of workers, parts, materials, machines and equipment.Classifies all imported parts for assigned accounts.Working with Manager in preparing responses to CBP requests and notices in a timely fashion (CBP28’s, CBP29’s).Audits entry summaries from Customs Brokers for accuracy and compliance. Resolves errors found on entry summaries with brokers.Informs stakeholders and applicable internal customers of any issues that arise within this function. Attend training sessions from industry and benchmarks to ensure staying up to date with international and import compliance.Prepares files for assigned accounts to ensure that all required documents are present for compliance.Corresponding with foreign vendors and purchasing team to obtain documents and information necessary for CBP clearance.Reviewing and approving ACH Statements for payment of Customs duties.Leads special projects such as C-TPAT (Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism), audits, etc.Working with other departments to ensure customer satisfaction and accuracy of import clearance.Prepares letters to vendors, brokers, and other parties involved in import transactions.Performing other duties and assignments as required by leadership and changing import function.Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain or equivalent experience in lieu of education. High School Diploma required. 5+ years’ experience (8+ years if candidate does not have degree) in Supply Chain with specialized experience in the fields of Transportation, Customs, Imports, Taxes, Tariffs, etc. Subject Matter Expert in field of US Import and Export Rules and RegulationsStrong understanding of import and transportation interrelates with other functions in the organizationAbility to teach and train others on responsibilities aboveNAFTA and Maquiladora Operations experience Experience with CTPATKnow how to use HTSUS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the US) codesExperienced in Free Trade Agreements (FTA) Knowledge of plant operations and processes preferredCommitted to delivering quality product—monitors process to ensure qualityAnalytical and problem solving skillsStrong customer service skillsCommitment to delivering quality product in a timely manner Excellent verbal and written communication skills Strong knowledge in MS office. Advanced knowledge of Word, Excel requiredSalary Range:
