Customer Facing Medical Manager HIV, The Netherlands

Gilead Sciences was founded over 30 years ago and it is an ambitious, innovative, research-based biopharmaceutical company with a pioneering mind-set that discovers, develops and commercialises innovative medicines in areas of unmet medical need. With each new discovery and investigational drug candidate, we seek to improve the care of patients living with life-threatening diseases around the world. Gilead’s therapeutic areas of focus include HIV/AIDS, liver diseases, inflammation, invasive fungal infections and Oncology/Cell Therapy. The Dutch office (part of the BENELUX cluster) is based in Amsterdam near the Amsterdam University Medical Center (AUMC).

We have an exciting opportunity to join the Medical Affairs team to lead and execute the field-based Medical Affairs activities for HIV in order to extend our leadership in HIV and preparing for future launches. This position is based in Amsterdam and provides medical support to the cross-functional account teams in the Netherlands.

Position summary:

As Customer Facing Medical Manager you have both field-based as well as office-based responsibilities but with a clear external focus. You will be key in leading field-based Medical Affairs initiatives in the Netherlands and provide medical support to cross-functional account teams in the Dutch affiliate within the area of HIV. You will report to the BENELUX Virology Lead Medical Affairs.

With a strong biomedical background, you bring relevant medical knowledge to the respective commercial teams and support the teams by answering medical questions. This role is characterized by strategic thinking, leading medical affairs activities, cross-functional collaboration, all for which well-developed communication skills, business acumen and an enterprise mindset are indispensable. You are responsible for liaising with key thought leaders and healthcare professionals in academic and clinical centres for scientific exchange, data dissemination, data generation, and date integration to ensure appropriate use of and preparing the landscape for Gilead innovations.

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to) in the field of HIV:

Establish and maintain ongoing scientific collaborative relationships with Key Thought Leaders (TLs) in the NetherlandsExchange complex medical/clinical scientific information with external stakeholdersExchange complex medical/clinical scientific information with internal stakeholders. Works collaboratively with affiliate Gilead colleagues in Marketing, Sales, Market Access, Public Affairs, Pharmacovigilance, Clinical Research and global/regional Medical Affairs TeamsContribute to the development of national strategic plans in line with global strategies Implement medical strategy and tactics in collaboration with the cross-functional teamsMedical education on relevant therapeutic areas and medicineCollects and analyses scientific data, publications and guidelinesCreation of medical content of Gilead organized medical education events and activitiesConducts disease awareness including treatment guidelines, medical providers, and communitySupports the development of local clinical data through clinical trials and investigator studiesAnalyses of clinical trial data and provides interpretation to cross functional departmentsEnsures appropriate medical quality of materials and activities within approval processAnswers and responds to medical inquiries from customersConference coverage (national and international) including staffing exhibits, reporting on scientific sessions, and facilitating meetings with key thought leadersProvide clinical/scientific presentations to internal and external stakeholdersOrganizes and participates at advisory boards and key conference activities

Knowledge, Experience & Skills:

Degree in biomedical sciences (PharmD, MD, PhD) preferredExisting medical or scientific expertise in the area of HIV, Infectious Diseases, Virology, Immunology is preferredExperience in pharmaceutical industry or related healthcare field is, collaborating with and supporting the business is preferredExperience of working in Netherlands, including knowledge of national regulatory requirements is preferredAbility of transferring complex scientific/medical data into understandable medical communication and educationExcellent communication, presentation and negotiation skills are required along with the ability to provide clear and concise analysis of quantitative and qualitative conceptsAbility and wish to continuously learn and improve and to work as a member of several local and international cross functional teams. Able to work with a high level of autonomy and independenceSufficient understanding of Clinical Research area in order to provide support for the link between company R&D and investigatorsProven ability to support cross functional teams in a medical role showing business acumen.Excellent analytical skills, demonstrated by the ability to identify and understand complex issues and problems, and interpret data and translate these in a manner that provides appropriate recommendations to respective cross functional groupsAbility to utilize complex scientific resources for presentations in a variety of different settingsExcellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skillsBusiness fluency in English Proven ability to work in a cross-functional matrixAbility to travel frequentlyDriving license
