Summary The position is located in Environmental Services Department at the Fort Yuma Health Care Center, Winterhaven, CA. The primary purpose of this position is to perform cleaning tasks in the clean and sterile areas requiring the application of routine, interim, terminal and uniform cleaning in the Health Care. Position reports to the Custodial Worker Supervisor. Per 5 U.S.C. appointment to this position is restricted to Veterans who are preference eligible as long as such applicants are available. Responsibilities Cleans and disinfects restrooms and lobby. Moves heavy furniture, supplies, and equipment. Performs preventative and minor maintenance as required. Performs inspection of outdoors areas and removes debris and litter, clears walkways, and ensures driveways are clear of dirt. Observes patients and visitors and alerts appropriate personnel regarding suspicious behavior or events. NOTE: Work requires considerable physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, bending, or moving of heavy items. Background Investigation: If you are selected for this vacancy, you must undergo a pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation. Fingerprint results and background investigation documentation must be cleared prior to hire. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): To qualify for this position you must meet the following screen-out element: Ability to do the work without more than normal supervision. This screen-out element is a critical self-assessment of the applicant's experience and is essential for satisfactory job performance. You may meet this requirement if you have experience and/or training to perform at the following wage grade level: WG-2: Follow oral or written instructions and/or work orders; and performing janitorial/custodial work, including mopping, waxing, and polishing floors; cleaning walls, ceilings, and room partitions; emptying trash receptacles; performing cleanup of spills, debris, and litter from common areas; and removing soiled and/or contaminated items following strict procedures to prevent cross contamination. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
