The Radiologic Technologist – CT Training Pathway is designed to provide hands-on training and progressive responsibilities in CT imaging under the supervision of registered CT technologists. This role supports the Imaging Services department by assisting with CT patient positioning, scan planning, and operation of CT scanners, while maintaining compliance with radiation safety protocols and ALARA principles.
The next training class starts January 2026.

What the CT Trainee will need:
Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program by no later than December 2025.
Current ARRT in radiography (or to be obtained no later than first week of January 2026)
ARRT (R) certification in CT obtained within one year after 23-week program completion.
BLS certification (American Heart Association).
What the CT Trainee will do:
Work alongside and under direct supervision of registered CT technologists. Assist with CT patient positioning, scan planning, and operation of CT scanners.
Learn protocols for contrast administration, including IV setup, injection safety, knowledge of GFR and allergic reaction protocols.
Begin to assist with and eventually perform CT scans, including IP, OP, and ED exams, including stroke and trauma.
Participate in training sessions and complete required clinical CT case logs toward registry eligibility.
Maintain compliance with radiation safety protocols and ALARA principles in both X-ray and CT environments.
Prepare and support patients through the CT process, including pre-exam screening, consent, and post-scan monitoring as applicable.
Using department guidelines/protocols, physician recommendations, and personal judgment, review patient charts and radiological history to determine proper protocol based on the physician’s order, patient history, and to identify any contraindications to oral and/or intravenous preps.
Transfer patients to CT table, assist patients with positioning, and apply immobilization and support devices as necessary.
Explain procedures, instruct, and reassure patients using care, courtesy, and tact.
Review patient history sheets with patients, clarifying any questionable entries and completing any areas left blank by the patient.
Apply knowledge of human anatomy and understanding of patient's condition to determine appropriate CT scanning techniques and to assure accurate, high-quality images for diagnostic interpretation.
Administer contrast media per protocol and radiologists' or referring physician orders, following established sterile techniques and methods. Monitor patients for adverse reactions to contrast media.
Observe case progress and patient condition before and during diagnostic procedures, recognizing changes that may require emergency actions and initiating appropriate responses.
