General Summary

The Plant Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently performing various plant duties to maintain production goals.

Essential Job Accountabilities

Perform all work in accordance with MSHA and Granite policies.Run an automated aggregate crushing and wash plant from an iPad.Follow procedures for plant start-up, shut-down, maintenance, etc.Perform daily/routine physical inspections of plant equipment including but not limited to screen media, guards, to ensure safe, reliable, and proper conditions for maximum production, and minimize interruptions.Perform thorough workplace examinations to minimize safety hazards.Maintain general cleanliness, keep walkways clear of any debris and report spillage.Identify and report safety, environmental, quality, mechanical and production concerns, problems, and opportunities to management.Accurately complete forms, safety checklists, and any required document daily, as required.Perform daily greasing and oil checks on equipment including but not limited to crushers and screens.Make suggestions to optimize plant operations.Collaborate with team members and management to troubleshoot production/mechanical issues.Maintain effective communication with internal and external customers. Perform other duties as required.

Education

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent years of experience

Work Experience

1-3 years of prior experience operating and maintaining crushing/washing plant.  Experience with automation software such as Ignition, WinCC, Factory Talk View, SCADA, etc., preferred.Experience operating mobile equipment, preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems. Ability to wear full body harness and work at heights while tied off.Ability to work, day, swing, and night shifts (occasionally extended hours).Ability to work in constant exposure to outside elements, in all weather conditions.Ability to work in safety sensitive construction setting, including exposure to moving machinery and heavy equipment.Ability to work collaboratively with a team in a fast-paced and complex environment.Ability to squat, crawl, and work in awkward positions/confined spaces.Ability to obtain an MSHA certificate as required for the job.

Physical Demands

Physical dexterity, stamina, and excellent hand-eye coordination with ability to: grasp, assemble, and lift objects, stand, sit, and walk for extended periods over uneven surfaces, squat, bend, climb ladders onto equipment or other objects, and potentially lie down.Lifting, pushing, pulling heavy items weighing up to 50 lbs. or more.

Additional Requirements/Skills

Ability to communicate effectively.Ability to understand and comply with MSHA rules and regulations.Comply, understand, and support corporate safety initiatives to ensure a safe work environment.Ability and willingness to abide by Granite’s Code of Conduct daily.
