Job Description:Performs clinical anesthesia duties and takes appropriate responsibility for direct patient care and for on-call as assigned. Prioritizes anesthetic decisions, administers anesthetic agents following protocols and guidelines and communicates patient status to healthcare team members. This individual performs coordinating duties by facilitating staff coverage, assignments and breaks in the surgical area. This individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span. The ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and appropriately interpret information relative to the patient's age-specific needs is required. The CRNA demonstrates leadership through involvement on committees and/team projects, education, and research and actively seeks to improve the practice of nursing through performance improvement initiatives. This individual is active in professional organizations and participates in community activities. The CRNA will ensure that the patient and family are partners in the plan of anesthesia care.

West Market:
2 years of clinical experience as a CRNA is required for this position

Education Qualifications:CRNA – Duluth, MN

Administers anesthesia to patients of all ages in the operating room, delivery room, and provides other related services as needed in other patient care areas according to Medical Center policies and procedures. Position requires high level of customer service skills to establish and enhance positive relationships with patients, co-workers, and others.
 

PRACTICE SPECIFICS

Medically directed practice with collegial Anesthesiologists 19 active ORs at Essentia Health St. Mary’s Medical Center (SMMC), 380-bed tertiary care center, Level I Trauma Center; high acuity11 active ORs at Essentia Health Duluth (formally Miller Dwan) a 151-bed care center; approximately 80% outpatient surgeries8, 10, 12, & 16-hour shiftsOther anesthetizing sites are EP lab, Endoscopy, OB, CT, Northern Pines Hospital (Aurora, MN)Busy surgical schedule, diverse practice excluding transplant and complex pediatrics

JOB QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
 

Education and/or years’ experience required:

Has graduated from an accredited school of nursingHas graduated from an accredited school of nurse anesthesiaKnowledge of current principles and methods of general, regional and local anestheticsAbility to function in stressful and emergent situations

Licensure/Certifications required:

Holds a current license in the state of practiceIs certified by the National Board of Certification and Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists; and has graduated from an accredited school of nurse anesthesia and is awaiting initial certification. Must pass certification exam within 12 months of graduation.Re-certified per the NBCRNAHolds current BCLS/ACLS certification

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Mental Requirements

Knowledge of current principles and methods of general, regional and local anesthetics Ability to function in stressful and emergent situations
