The Critical Environments Operating Engineer supports the successful operation of the client’s data centers. These facilities operate 24/7 and risks must be managed to allow for continual operational up-time.
The Operating Engineer will have responsibility for the operations and maintenance at the client’s data centers and will take daily direction from engineering leadership. Responsibilities include the support of all data center engineering, facility and grounds maintenance, and other site support functions. This role will be part of a team that is accountable for the operational performance readiness, reliability, and integrity of the mission-critical infrastructure systems which include (but not limited to) the following:
Chillers, Pumps, Cooling Towers, VFD’s, AHU’s, CRAC’s, CRCU’s, UPS’s, PDU’s, Batteries, Generators, Fuel Pumps and Fuel Storage, Switchgear, Utility Feeds, Transfer Switches, Process Piping, Fire Detection, Fire Suppression, BAS, and Leak Detection systems.
The successful candidate must have an understanding how these systems function and be capable of performing corrective measures. This includes resetting alarms, operating breakers and switches, starting back-up systems, etc. This individual will also be required to oversee service contract providers that support the facility systems. Individuals are expected to demonstrate technical expertise in one craft area (Electrical, HVAC, or Central Utility Plant Operations) and be multi-skilled in others in order to successfully complete daily/weekly work assignments.
The Critical Environments Operating Engineer will be required to perform a number of preventive maintenance and reactive activities as well as support the account Critical Environments Program for the region. The primary focus of this position is to provide shift coverage and on-call plant operational support for all facilities systems, including electrical, HVAC, and building controls. This person will have the responsibility of providing written reports/logs and maintaining reliable and efficient operation of the facilities equipment that supports the Data Centers and other Critical Facilities in the region.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
PHYSICAL WORK ABILITIES & REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires frequent walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, lifting, stooping, and working/extending overhead, including:
Walking large, campus-like settings. Lifting a minimum of 50 lbs. Climbing stairs and navigating rooftops to access equipment. Using ladders up to 30 ft and working from heights. Ability to Climb a ladder with a 300-lb weight limit. Must be able to work different schedules. Must be able to work Holidays. Must be able to respond to site emergencies.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or state equivalentPrefer two years of college or related trade schoolingThree years of plant building operating experience, data center experience preferred (including UPS systems, emergency generators, and switch-gear)Operating Engineers license (SMA) or equivalentPrefer experience in Electrical or HVAC/Refrigeration trades (journeyman level or higher)Certification as a Universal Technician for CFC’s or the ability to earn within 90 days of hire
