The Crematory & Removal Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of crematory operations and the timely, respectful removal and transport of deceased individuals from their place of death. This role ensures compliance with legal, ethical, and industry standards while maintaining the highest level of dignity and professionalism in the funeral industry and compliance with the core values maintained by The Wilbert Group. These duties require availability on nights and weekends on an “on-call” basis.

Manages a team of transportation employees. Develops schedules and day-to-day activities of transportation area. Focuses on team completion of assignments and routines, and is responsible for ensuring the orientation and training of employees. Responsibilities include route assignments, account processing, delivery and other transportation tasks. Oversees vehicle maintenance schedules and other applicable records

The Wilbert Group offers a range of manufactured concrete products, including burial vaults, monuments, lawn crypts, columbarium niches, septic tanks, retaining walls, storm shelters, and agricultural precast products. The company operates manufacturing plants, warehouses, monument production facilities, a casket manufacturing plant, and crematories. The monument division produces granite memorials and markers, custom granite signage, and engraved brick pavers, and engages in wholesale monument sales.

Position Summary:

The Crematory & Removal Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of crematory operations and the timely, respectful removal and transport of deceased individuals from their place of death. This role ensures compliance with legal, ethical, and industry standards while maintaining the highest level of dignity and professionalism in the funeral industry and compliance with the core values maintained by The Wilbert Group.  These duties require availability on nights and weekends on an “on-call” basis.

Key Responsibilities:

Crematory Operations

Oversee the daily operation of the crematory, including scheduling, documentation, and equipment maintenance.Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing cremation services.Adhere to the Crematory Policy & Procedure manual established by Wilbert Funeral Services, Inc.Maintain accurate records of all cremations, including all documentation within the Policy & Procedure manual.Monitor crematory inventory, supplies, and equipment parts.Perform cremations on a back-up basis as needed

Removal & Transport Services

Supervise and coordinate all removal operations from hospitals, nursing homes, residences, and other locations.Train and oversee staff to ensure removals are conducted with compassion, dignity, and efficiency, and safety.Ensure vehicles are maintained, clean, and equipped for professional removals and transport.Coordinate logistics for removals, including shift schedules, route planning, and on-call rotations.Dispatch removals Monday – Friday during office hours, nights, and weekends as needed.

Leadership & Staff Management

Hire, train, and manage removal technicians and crematory operators.Provide ongoing coaching, performance evaluations, and development opportunities for staff.Create and enforce standard operating procedures and safety protocols.Ensure team members adhere to OSHA, infection control, and PPE guidelines.

Administration & Compliance

Manage documentation, permits, and reporting related to cremation and transport activities.Coordinate with funeral homes, medical examiners, and families as needed.Stay current with changes in industry regulations and best practices.Supervise weekly payroll submission with form compliance on Excel.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s or Bachelor's degree preferred).Minimum 3 years of experience in funeral service or crematory operations.Certified Crematory Operator (or ability to obtain certification within 30 days).Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.Strong leadership and organizational skills.Excellent written and verbal interpersonal and communication abilities.Exceptional Customer Service Skills:Demonstrated ability to interact with customers and, on occasion, families of a deceased individual in a compassionate, respectful, and professional manner.Strong Communication Abilities:Able to clearly and empathetically communicate with individuals from diverse backgrounds, often during sensitive or emotional situations.Ability to lift 100 lbs. with assistance and work varied hours, including nights/weekends.

Working Conditions:

Exposure to varying weather conditions, bodily remains, and potentially hazardous materials.On-call availability required.Position may involve night, weekend, and holiday work on a rotating basis.

Pay Range:

64,000.00 - 96,000.00
