Description
We are looking for a detail-oriented Collections Specialist to join our client's team in Brea, California. The role requires a strong understanding of construction-related credit practices, legal tools such as lien and bond claims, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
Responsibilities:
• Manage a portfolio of job-specific accounts, ensuring timely collections and effective credit risk evaluation.
• Review and approve credit applications by verifying contractor references, licenses, and bonding information.
• Analyze and monitor credit exposure based on project size, contract terms, and lien position, adjusting credit holds as necessary.
• Draft and oversee project-specific agreements, including joint check arrangements, deposits, and installment payment schedules.
• Prepare and file Stop Payment Notices and Bond Claims in compliance with California construction laws.
• Maintain detailed records of accounts receivable activities, including payment commitments and dispute resolutions.
• Collaborate with sales, project coordinators, and accounting teams to address invoice discrepancies and resolve customer concerns.
• Support audit requests and contribute to refining internal credit and collections processes.
• Perform additional credit-related tasks as needed to support the department.
Requirements • Proficiency in accounts receivable practices, job-based billing cycles, and PO-based invoice workflows.
• Strong knowledge of California Lien Law, Stop Payment Notices, and Bond Claims.
• Excellent communication skills for engaging in payment negotiations with contractors and subcontractors.
• High attention to detail, strong follow-up skills, and the ability to work independently in a deadline-driven environment.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics GP or Dynamics 365 Business Central.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to company policies and financial regulations.
• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, or an Associate’s Degree with 7+ years of credit and collections experience in the construction industry.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in credit and collections within the construction or mechanical trades sector.
