This work unit exists to manage Fishers Peak State Park, within the guidelines of Colorado State statutes, regulations, and Division of Parks and Wildlife policies and procedures for the use, benefit, and enjoyment of the park visitors. The unit provides a wide variety of recreational and educational opportunities to the public, while ensuring that safety and quality standards are met. The unit is responsible for providing visitor services, maintenance functions, natural resources protection, environmental education, administrative functions, law enforcement, inter-agency cooperation, and program development. Description of Job This position exists to provide skilled maintenance, repair, and construction of electrical, water systems, sewage systems, buildings, facilities, equipment, roads, trails, vehicles, and other park structures and facilities. To plan, develop, administer all maintenance operations, budgets and programs on the park, including supervision of seasonal staff. To manage, and maintain areas of natural vegetation and wildlife habitat. SUPERVISION Interviews, hires, trains, and supervises 2-5 temporary maintenance employees to implement assigned work programs. Spends and tracks wage budgets for fiscal year. MANAGEMENT Tracks maintenance and equipment inventory, Fleet vehicle program, water use, electric consumption, projects, costs, and small capital project outlay by keeping accurate spreadsheets and files RESOURCE PROTECTION Provides resource protection and area enhancement by pruning, removing, and planting trees: performing erosion control; noxious weed control; turf management, wildfire mitigation; mowing and trimming of vegetation in developed areas. FACILITIES MAINTENANCE Provides park facility and structure care by performing skilled electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, concrete work, HVAC, road maintenance, herbicide application, welding, and painting. EQUIPMENT OPERATION Operates backhoe, chipper, dump truck, tractor/loader, snowplow, boats, snowmobiles, chainsaws and other small motorized equipment, and mowers. Keeps listed items operational by performing preventative maintenance or repairs, modifying existing equipment, or replacing unusable equipment. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights Minimum Qualifications At least four years of work experience in construction, carpentry, equipment/machinery operation, farming, ranching, range land management, wildlife/habitat management, resource management, landscaping, facility maintenance/management, HVAC, plumbing, electrical or an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position. You must adequately demonstrate your experience in your application as it relates to the duties of this position. No formal college education is required. Substitutions Appropriate education in, construction or project management, natural resources, or recreation management, or a related field of study will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. Preferred Qualifications + Current or former State experience relevant to this position. + Ability to work independently or with a team. + Supervisory experience. + Experience with heavy equipment operation, chainsaws, ATV/UTV operation.
