ResponsibilitiesThe Manager of Chaplain Residents and CPE Program Director is responsible for the strategic development, implementation, and oversight of the Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program. This role ensures continued accreditation by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) through curriculum development, program management, instructional leadership, and compliance monitoring. The manager provides clinical supervision to CPE students as they deliver spiritual care to patients, families, and staff, and promotes Community Medical Center's (CMC) CPE program within faith communities and the broader public. This position collaborates closely with the Spiritual Services Leadership team to advance the department's mission and goals.
Accountabilities
1. Oversees all aspects of the CPE program to ensure compliance with ACPE standards, maintaining accreditation through documentation, evaluation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
2. Leads the development and delivery of the CPE curriculum in collaboration with the Professional Advisory Group.
3. Manages the recruitment, selection, orientation, and performance evaluations for CPE fellows, residents, interns and Certified Educator students, ensuring a high-quality educational experience.
4. Provides clinical supervision and educational leadership to CPE fellows, residents, interns and Certified Educator students guiding learning goals, facilitating growth, and assessing competencies.
5. Serves as the key liaison with departmental directors and staff preceptors to coordinate and align educational activities with clinical services.
6. Provides spiritual care and chaplaincy services as needed; supports sacramental ministry and connects patients with community faith leaders for specialized spiritual needs.
7. Promotes and represents the CPE program to religious institutions and community partners to strengthen external relationships and foster program awareness.
8. Participates in departmental planning and contributes to strategic initiatives to advance the mission and visibility of Spiritual Services.
9. Directly responsible (with support from Employee Relations) for employee engagement and people supervision processes including interviewing and selection, time and attendance approval, providing timely feedback and performance evaluations, employee development and employee retention.
10. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Education
• High School Diploma, High School Equivalency (HSE) or Completion of a CHS Approved Individualized Education Plan (IEP) Certificate required
• Master's Degree in Divinity, Religion, or Theology required
• Ordination or commissioned to function by an appropriate religious authority required
Experience
• 5 years of experience in ministry providing spiritual care, preferably in a healthcare or clinical setting, required
• Bilingual skills preferred
Licenses and Certifications
• ACPE - Certified Educator through the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education required
• BLS - Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers by American Heart Association (AHA) preferred
