Counsel-Real Estate

      

Provide a range of legal expertise regarding real estate law. Provide well-reasoned, concise counsel on legal risks associated with current, proposed or anticipated business activities, balancing business-oriented goals with legal risk. Develop and recommend company policy on a variety of legal and regulatory issues. Address other strategic issues as assigned.

*This position follows a hybrid model of working from home and in-office at our Minneapolis Investment Office.

         

          

Serve as primary counsel to real estate investment business partners in areas of mortgage loan origination, loan administration, loan restructure and loan enforcement (commercial lending).Serve as primary counsel to corporate real estate business partners on commercial leasing transactions (primarily as tenant’s counsel), review of easements and encumbrances, and other real estate related issues.Collaborate with the real estate legal team to develop, update, implement and manage processes and templates that improve efficiency and quality of legal support and the use of legal resources.Review state lending/licensing laws and advise on applicability to company’s mortgage lending practices.Provide legal counsel to real estate business partners related to the development and sale of excess real estate, and collaborate with business partners, outside counsel, real estate developers, municipal officials, and prospective purchasers in connection with the development and sale.Manage and review outside counsel engagements to ensure high-quality, timely, and cost-effective legal services, including monitoring work product and performance, fees, and waivers of conflicts of interest.  Implement strategies to maximize value and efficiency in the delivery of external legal support.Communicate effectively with company personnel to ensure they are aware of and in compliance with, applicable laws and regulations. Provide education and training as necessary. Articulate complex concepts in an easily understandable manner tailored to a variety of audiences.Review company activities that impact commercial mortgage lending or company-owned/occupied real estate to ensure compliance with laws, rules and regulations and contractual arrangements. Handle selected matters in-house and independently; assist business partners in quantifying and developing strategies to mitigate legal risk and provide proactive advice, guidance and strategy regarding legal matters.Conduct research, review, analysis, drafting and approval of various documents, contracts, policies, procedures and obligations to which the company is or may become a party.

Required Job Qualifications

Juris Doctorate, member of the bar.5-10 years of relevant, high-quality legal experience.Subject matter expertise in real estate law and commercial mortgage lending law.

The applicable salary or hourly wage range for this full-time role is $165,808.00 - $224,328.00 per year, which factors in various geographic regions. The base pay actually offered will be determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to, location, relevant experience, skills, and knowledge, business needs, market demand, and other factors Thrivent deems important.
