Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025. The Counsel, Litigation and Regulatory will be responsible for handling disputes, advising internal business clients, litigating cases as counsel-of-record (both independently and under supervision of other in-house litigators) and/or in collaboration with outside counsel.  The Counsel, Litigation and Regulatory will work on a wide range of matters, including general commercial disputes, media litigation (including defamation claims and journalist privilege issues), employment litigation, privacy claims, consumer protection claims, intellectual property claims (both affirmative and defensive), insured matters, internal investigations, regulatory inquires, regulatory advice, third-party subpoenas and other matters. The Counsel, Litigation and Regulatory will also be responsible for advising business units on various regulatory requirements including anti-trust, FTC and FCC.  This role offers the unique opportunity to build the litigation and regulatory operations of a newly formed media company. This is a Versant role. Job Duties  + Analyze claims and formulate litigation for early case resolution strategy  + Conduct fact investigations in connection with litigation and compliance matters  + Manage and collaborate with outside counsel  + Draft and edit legal papers, including pleadings, briefs, declarations, discovery demands and responses  + Advise business clients and senior management on strength of claims and defenses, dispute avoidance and resolution  + Respond to third-party subpoenas  + Leading responses to regulatory inquires, investigation and enforcement actions  + Handling or assisting with court proceedings (including federal and state court appearances), arbitrations, mediations, and depositions  + Manage and supervise e-discovery  + Advise on regulatory issues including anti-trust, FTC and FCC and monitor rulemaking and other proceedings at federal agencies + Advise on emerging media policy areas, including artificial intelligence, algorithmic activity and content moderation issues + Coordinate with Versant’s Government Affairs on policy and regulatory issues Qualifications Basic Requirements  + JD degree and New York or California Bar Admission   + At least 5 years of litigation experience, including in-house experience, service in a top tier law firm and/or relevant government position + Outstanding interpersonal, writing and analytic skills  + Strong communication and oral presentation skills  Desired Characteristics  + Experience at a major media/digital company  + Experience in news, entertainment, sports, privacy, e-commerce and/or intellectual property litigation  + Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team  + Ability to work effectively under pressure; managing multiple priorities and conflicting deadlines  + Superior sound judgment and professionalism to resolve legal issues quickly   + Proactively handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment  + Flexible to acquiring new areas of expertise as regulatory environment and business needs change  Additional Requirements  + Must be willing to work in New York, NY or Los Angeles, CA Additional Information + Hybrid: This position has been designated as hybrid, generally contributing from the office a minimum of three days per week.
