Cost Estimator

Position Overview

The Cost Estimator – Level III plays a key role in supporting the development of a multi-billion-dollar project portfolio across the energy sector. This position applies cost engineering best practices to prepare and present capital cost estimates for a variety of complex projects, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and alignment with business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Develop multidisciplinary project estimates across sectors, including liquids, gas, gas storage, gas utility, power (solar, wind, battery storage), carbon capture, and acquisitions.

Prepare capital cost estimates, including contingencies, market escalation, cash flow projections, and benchmarking, to support economic evaluations.

Manage multiple estimates concurrently, following standardized internal estimating processes.

Present and defend estimates to internal stakeholders and senior leadership.

Prepare cost engineering reports and conduct special studies, ensuring data accuracy and quality.

Perform cost analysis and other evaluations to support decision-making.

Contribute to the updating of estimating tools based on changes in standards, industry practices, and project experience.

Collaborate with supply chain, cost control, and area managers to ensure cost information accuracy and alignment.

Works independently to achieve objectives within assigned areas.

Applies standard procedures, adapting methods when necessary.

Recommendations are generally accepted as technically accurate; specialized issues may be escalated to senior technical staff.
Key Relationships
Collaborates closely with Cost Engineering team members, Project Development Leads, and project execution teams.

Engages with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and external stakeholders to gather and validate estimating inputs.

Communicates technical and cost information effectively through reports, presentations, and discussions.
Qualifications & Skills
Required:

Strong background in cost estimating (preference for candidates with relevant industry experience).

Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI, Word, CoPilot).

Ability to work effectively with diverse project teams and build strong relationships.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

High attention to detail and accuracy.

Strong time management and multitasking capabilities.

Preferred:

7+ years of relevant construction industry experience and/or a degree/diploma in Engineering.

Estimating certifications/designations such as CCP or CEP.

Familiarity with AACEI recommended practices.

Experience with estimating software (e.g., Cleopatra, Timberline).

Strong initiative and eagerness to learn.

Effective presentation and facilitation skills.
