Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Cost Accountant to join our team in Allentown, Pennsylvania. In this role, you will be responsible for managing and optimizing cost-related processes, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and supporting operational improvements. This position is ideal for someone with a strong background in cost accounting and a passion for driving financial accuracy and efficiency.
Responsibilities:
• Maintain and improve the standard costing and inventory systems, including cost of goods sold, inventory valuation, bill of materials, and work order variances.
• Assist in month-end closing activities, such as preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, and analyzing financial statements.
• Support the development and review of financial justifications for capital projects, track spending and timing, and report variances against budgets and forecasts.
• Generate periodic financial control reports, including inventory and scrap accounting, to monitor plant performance.
• Collaborate with the team to resolve issues related to accounts payable and accounts receivable.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance inventory turns, gross margin, and inventory accuracy.
• Assist the controller in updating standard costs, inventory valuations, and conducting annual re-costing processes.
• Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley regulations by designing and assessing internal controls and reporting to management.
• Conduct ad hoc financial analyses to support business decision-making. Requirements • Proven experience in cost accounting, particularly in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong knowledge of standard costing and cost analysis methodologies.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial software tools.
• Familiarity with inventory valuation processes and financial reporting standards.
• Ability to analyze variances and provide actionable insights.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for team collaboration.
• Understanding of Sarbanes-Oxley compliance and internal control design.
