Cost Accountant
Description Our client, a mission-first nonprofit organization known for its commitment to community impact and meaningful change, is looking for an experienced Cost Accountant to join their team. This role is vital in ensuring financial transparency and resource optimization in an organization driven by integrity and purpose. Key Responsibilities: + Analyze program and operating costs to ensure accurate allocation of expenses across multiple funding sources, including grants and donations. + Collaborate with department leaders to develop and maintain budgets, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and compliance guidelines. + Track and report costs associated with individual grants, providing visibility into fund utilization and documenting all expenditures against grant budgets. + Prepare detailed financial reports for internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies and grant providers. + Manage overhead and indirect cost allocations to ensure fair and accurate accounting across departments and programs. + Assist with financial audits by maintaining organized cost-related documentation and ensuring compliance with nonprofit accounting standards. + Identify opportunities to improve cost-accounting processes, reduce inefficiencies, and generate cost savings. Requirements + Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business administration; CPA or CMA certification is a plus. + 3–5 years of experience in cost accounting, preferably in the nonprofit sector or a grant-driven environment. + Proficiency in accounting and ERP software, such as NetSuite, QuickBooks, or Sage Intacct + Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, cost modeling, and complex functions). + Strong understanding of nonprofit cost structures, grant accounting, and resource allocation methods. + Analytical mindset with excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities. + Effective communication skills to present financial data to non-financial audiences.
