Position Overview:
Reuters is looking for an outstanding and versatile correspondent to join our bureau in the Philippines, one of Southeast Asia’s most important news hubs. The Philippines is at the forefront of U.S.-China tensions, a central player in the South China Sea dispute, and home to dynamic, and at times unpredictable, political, economic, and social developments. This is an exciting opportunity to cover one of the region’s most compelling and competitive news patches.
We are seeking a motivated, enterprising journalist who can deliver insightful and standout coverage across a wide range of topics—from politics and diplomacy to economics, natural disasters, and security. You will be expected to work at speed and under pressure while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and fairness.
About the Role
In this opportunity, as a Philippines Correspondent you will:
Deliver fast, accurate news and spot reporting across multiple beats.
Deliver coverage that resonates with global clients
Generate compelling story ideas and produce high-impact initiative pieces.
Build and maintain a strong network of sources across government, business.
Cover major events and developments, including political shifts, central bank and economic policy, regional security, and natural disasters.
Collaborate closely with visuals colleagues in Manila, Southeast Asia Breaking News Hub, and Reuters editors and correspondents globally.
Work flexibly across formats in line with Reuters’ One Newsroom strategy, contributing to integrated text, photo, and video coverage. Be ready to hit the ground to cover fast-moving, high-impact news as it breaks.
Embrace storytelling in all forms, combining sharp reporting with an openness to visual approaches that engage a global audience.
About You
You're a fit for the role of a Philippines Correspondent if your background includes:
Proven journalism experience in a fast-paced news environment.
Strong reporting and writing skills with excellent news judgment.
Proven ability to develop and maintain high-level sources.
Comfortable with economic and financial data, and the ability to interpret them quickly and accurately.
A demonstrated ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
Someone who thrives in a team setting and values collaboration across platforms and regions.
