Minimum Qualifications Three years of experience in a correctional, behavioral, or penal institution with responsibility for the security, custody, rehabilitation, or classification of offenders, or in law enforcement or security plus one of the following: 1. Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR 2. One year of experience in any field; OR 3. Six months of law enforcement experience as a POST certified peace officer. One year of this experience must have been in a position equivalent in scope of responsibility or complexity of work performed to a Corrections Lieutenant in the State service. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted. In accordance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) (Part 115:17) of Title 28 of the Code of Federal Regulations an applicant who has been found to have engaged in any form of sexual abuse; engaged in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable or refused will be disqualified. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. Possession of a current driver's license. Job Duties and Other Information Job Duties: + Inspect all areas of supervision ensuring they are properly cleaned, sanitary, operating efficiently and are in compliance with safety, health, and ACA regulations. + Ensure officers are on their assigned drops and are working according to LSP policies and procedures. + Supervise count procedures, meal activities, call-outs, and other routine management functions. + Supervise and assist officers in handling disturbances or incidents. + Work with adult male inmates of all custody levels – minimum, medium, maximum (death row) and protective custody. + Will supervise maximum-security inmates and lower level security officers. Position-Specific Details: This position will be filled by: + PROMOTION: This position will be filled by promotion of a permanent classified employee of the Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections. + DETAIL: The selected employee may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted. Compensation: This position has a Special Entrance Rate of $24.64 per hour.
