Occupational Category Professional Department COM Research Division Division of Academic Affairs Open Date 08/20/2025 Open Until Filled Yes Educational and Experience Requirement Bachelor’s degree in Health Informatics, Computer Science, Public Health, Statistics, or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred. A minimum of five years of relevant experience in database administration, data management, or clinical research or experience in a related field. Experience with REDCap, electronic health records (EHRs), and clinical trial data is strongly preferred. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered. Nature & Purpose of Position Performs advanced administrative and supervisory program work for the College of Osteopathic Medicine by overseeing the development, management, and optimization of research data systems. Primary Responsibilities Oversees the work of assigned program. Administers and maintains REDCap and other data capture platforms used in faculty- and student-led research. Oversees the design and implementation of research databases for clinical trials, educational research, and observational studies. Manages, organizes, and secures sensitive research data, ensuring compliance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Institutional Review Board (IRB), Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and institutional policies. Provides consultation and technical support to research teams on data collection methods, instrument design, and data workflows. Work will be conducted at the COM as well as the SHSU Physicians Clinic as projects require. Individual will work with IT Security Team to facilitate partnerships. Collaborates with investigators to extract, clean, and structure data for analysis, reporting, and publication. Supports data elements in grant proposals and IRB submissions; may be listed as key personnel on research grants. Partners with biostatisticians, IT professionals, and external collaborators to support data integration, security, and analytics. Trains research staff and students in database use and data handling best practices. Performs other related duties as assigned. Other Specifications Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across disciplines and levels of technical expertise. Demonstrates ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced academic environment. Familiarity with statistical analysis is desirable. Strong knowledge of clinical data regulations, including GCP, 21 CFR Part 11, and NIH data sharing policies, is preferred. Supports the research mission of the College of Osteopathic Medicine by overseeing the development, management, and optimization of research data systems. Serves as a central resource for faculty investigators, research teams, and institutional stakeholders, ensuring data systems meet the evolving needs of academic medical research.
