Coordinator, Point of Care Testing - Laboratory Administration - Full Time

Position Summary: Position provides laboratory technical support and regulatory consultation for the Point of Care Testing Program (POCT) and assists with standardizing POCT protocols throughout the Guthrie system.  Works closely with inpatient staff to coordinate: POCT training and proficiency testing, device implementation and upgrades, POCT reagent inventory, health information system and POCT web‐based middleware connectivity and quality assurance monitoring of the POCT program. This program operates under the medical direction of the Laboratory Director or designated pathologist.

Education, License & Cert: Must be a Medical Technologist with a minimum of 6 years relevant experience in the clinical laboratory.

Experience: Must have in‐depth knowledge of laboratory techniques, principles, tests, instruments, and statistical analysis.  Must possess a high initiative, be an independent operator and a self‐starter.  Must possess excellent problem solving, communication and writing skills.  Must demonstrate the ability to work well with people and speak in front of groups.

Essential Functions: 1. Responsible for preparing and maintaining laboratory technical procedure manuals for POCT and providing POCT procedural guidance to Guthrie POCT programs at other Guthrie hospital locations. 2. Responsible for developing and maintaining a quality assurance program for POCT by reviewing on a periodic basis quality control, proficiency testing and patient test results. 3. Ensures corrective action is performed and documented for POCT equipment troubleshooting, POCT regulatory compliance issues, and proficiency testing failures. Provides corrective action guidance to Guthrie POCT programs at other Guthrie hospital locations 4. Coordinates the POCT competency assessment and training of staff in proper laboratory technique and POCT procedure, i.e. testing methodologies, quality control, test order and result documentation. Provides competency assessment and training guidance to Guthrie POCT programs at other Guthrie hospital locations to ensure standardization. 5. Responsible for completion of all documentation and payment of fees to maintain POCT program accreditation. 6. Monitors on a periodic basis inpatient POCT program readiness for accreditation and regulatory inspections in coordination with representatives from the Clinical Regulatory Compliance department. Coordinates periodic inspections of hospital POCT areas.  Is present for all announced inspections.  Ensures that all regulatory and accreditation deficiencies cited are corrected. Acts as RPH POCT site coordinator for accreditation agency site inspections. 7. Uses good judgment in the communication of all relevant issues, problems and/or developments in those areas of the hospital that perform POCT to the appropriate personnel and the Point of Care Testing Manager. 8. Follows established Organizational and Departmental policies and practices. 9. Provides POCT feedback, solutions, updates, and metrics to the RPH Nursing/Blood Bank/POCT Steering Committee and coordinates corrective actions as needed. 10. Required to attend in‐service classes or workshops relevant to the position. 11. Responsible for the coordination of new POCT methodology implementation to include method validation, training and competency assessment, policy and procedure development, device connectivity, addition to proficiency testing menu, reagent inventory update and other activities.  Recommends changes and improvements for POCT to the Point of Care Testing Manager. 12. Acts as POCT liaison between RPH Patient Care areas, RPH Leadership and Guthrie Clinic Laboratory Leadership. 13. Observes proper safety practices in the performance of job duties. 14. Performs other duties as assigned, to include but not limited to the following: typing, filing, answering telephones, maintenance of technical manuals, POCT equipment, POCT connectivity upgrades.

The pay range for this position is $31.96 - $50.62/hr
