Coordinator, Early Childhood, Early Childhood Centers, MacDonald Knolls Early Childhood Center, 1.0 FTE

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
Under direction of the director of the Department of Early Childhood, Federal and Special Programs, the coordinator is responsible for administering the early childhood center program on site and providing educational leadership for students, parents, and staff members that is consistent with the educational goals of the community. Works in concert with affiliated elementary school principals, MCPS division staff, offices, parents and Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE). Collaborates with other MCPS divisions to enhance understanding of the Early Childhood Center to provide high-quality early childhood programming for a diverse population of income-eligible Prekindergarten children and families. Provides comprehensive early childhood education services for children ages three through five years old including children with disabilities enrolled in prekindergarten programming. Develops and prepares a School Improvement Plan and professional development in collaboration with staff and parents; fosters professional learning communities and facilitates job-embedded staff development. Collaborates with teachers and community partners in supporting the goal of building staff capacity to meet system wide and local school initiatives to increase student learning and school readiness. Works in conjunction with the MCPS central offices to support school readiness and student achievement.Physical Demands: None Special Requirements: Attendance at evening and weekend student activities, and other meetings, as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
Thorough knowledge of MCPS organization and administration, policies and procedures, goals and priorities, assessment programs, and state and federal regulations. Ability to work effectively with central office and school-based administrators, teachers, instructional specialists, and support staff to implement, monitor, and evaluate extended learning programs. Excellent planning, organizational, management, and oral and written communication skills. Ability to prepare reports, papers, and presentations that include effective data displays and analysis of progress. Thorough knowledge of early childhood programs and services for children ages birth through 5-years-old. Knowledge of early childhood pedagogy and current research and trends in early childhood education with special emphasis on developmentally appropriate, culturally competent curriculum, instructional practices, and assessment. Ability to work effectively with administrators, principals, teachers, the child care community, and public and private agencies in implementing developmentally appropriate programs in full alignment with MCPS curriculum, instructional practices, and assessment. Excellent written and oral communications, exceptional human relations skills, data analysis, management, and monitoring. This position requires the knowledge and application of the six performance standards that have been established for the MCPS Administrative and Supervisory.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:
Master?s degree from an accredited college or university. Five years or more outstanding teaching and leadership experience assessing program needs, providing professional development, and program implementation experience or related experience required. Demonstrated leadership and broad experience working effectively with diverse staff, working with early childhood programs, implementing regulations, completing programs, evaluations, or providing technical assistance. Experience working with parents and conducting training for a variety of audiences is preferred. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position, may be considered.CERTIFICATE LICENSE:Meets Maryland certification requirements for administrators and principals or Administrator I.
