Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to join our team in a challenging heavy manufacturing environment. This position is well-suited for individuals who excel in non-climate-controlled settings and are comfortable with the demands of working around heavy machinery, dust, and dirt inherent to industrial production.
ResponsibilitiesDevelop and maintain PLC programs for large-scale manufacturing process control systems using object-oriented libraries and industry best practices.Build reusable function block elements with object-oriented programming techniques to support scalable automation.Serve as a technical expert in industrial control systems, mentoring team members and supporting knowledge transfer.Generate and maintain control system documentation to support design, troubleshooting, and engineering workflows.Lead updates to organization-wide control system standards and documentation.Act as a change agent, supporting strategic initiatives and driving innovation in automation.Provide hands-on troubleshooting support for operational technology systems across multiple production sites.Collaborate with cross-functional teams using digital communication tools.Participate in ongoing training and professional development, with a strong willingness to learn and adapt.Contribute to a positive team culture and help shape a strong, safety-focused work environment.Travel to manufacturing facilities and corporate offices as needed (up to 15%).Essential SkillsBachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field—or equivalent hands-on experience.7+ years of experience in PLC programming and control theory.3+ years of experience with Siemens TIA Portal, process control systems, and motion control technologies.Additional Skills & Qualifications4+ years working with control algorithms and electrical systems.2+ years of experience with Siemens Simatic Manager, instrumentation theory, PID control loops, and mechanical systems.1+ year applying object-oriented programming in industrial automation.Experience in troubleshooting old/obsolete, unknown equipment systems.Experience with SIEMENS 505 up to S7 PLCs, S120 Drives.Experience with motors (AC and DC) and drives of various ages and varied instrumentation, including camera systems.Ability to mentor down to the technician level and create documentation.Comfortable with a mix of upgrading/improving existing processes and hands-on troubleshooting emergent items.Work Environment
This role is based in a non-climate-controlled facility with heavy industrial equipment. Expect exposure to dust, dirt, noise, and physical activity. PPE and safety protocols are strictly enforced. Every 5 weeks, one team member is on call 24/7 for one week to address any facility issues. The position is salaried once direct.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $65.00/hr.
