The Position:
C.H.I. Overhead Doors is looking for qualified candidates for the role of Controls Engineer. This role is responsible for supporting, maintaining, and improving automation systems across the facility. Key duties include troubleshooting PLCs and HMIs, leading automation upgrades, assisting with system integration, supporting capital projects, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve performance and reliability. This position will apply engineering principles and automation best practices while demonstrating strong technical and project management capabilities.
Related Job Duties:
+ Troubleshoot, maintain, and enhance control systems including PLCs, HMIs, sensors, and drives
+ Lead or assist with automation projects including upgrades, installations, and system integration
+ Partner with maintenance, engineering, and production teams to improve reliability and performance
+ Develop and maintain technical documentation for control systems and schematics
+ Ensure all control systems comply with safety and company standards
+ Support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives
+ Provide guidance to Level 1 controls techs or maintenance personnel as needed
+ Other reasonable duties as assigned
Compensation
Starting Base Salary Range: $81,994-$115,378
ROA Bonus
ROA Bonus percentage is variable, determinate upon company performance each year, up to 33% of annual salary.
Profit-Sharing
10% of Nucors pre-tax earnings are contributed to the Profit Sharing Plan annually and distributed to all eligible teammates. A large portion is deposited into your profit-sharing account, and a smaller portion is distributed in cash. Current 6-year average = 19.88% of your eligible earnings. Eligible earnings include regular pay, overtime, and bonus.

Minimum Qualifications:
+ Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related field
+ 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing controls/automation role
(Associates degree in related field with 8-10 years experience in a manufacturing controls/automation role will be considered)
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Strong experience with Allen-Bradley platforms (RSLogix 5000/Studio 5000) Siemens, or similar PLC platforms
+ HMI experience (FactoryTalk, PanelView, etc.)
+ Solid understanding of industrial networks and control architectures (Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, etc.)
+ Hands-on troubleshooting experience with sensors, VFDs, and I/O systems
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD
+ Experience leading automation upgrades, system migrations, or process control improvements
+ Ability to manage full-cycle projects including design, procurement, installation, and start-up
