Job Description
As a Controls Engineer, you will drive continuous improvement across control systems at sort centers. You will identify opportunities for innovation in current automation and apply automation to existing systems. Your role includes reviewing PLC code, suggesting modifications, and creating control systems templates for all sites. You will work independently and collaboratively with engineering teams to deliver high-quality cross-functional projects.
ResponsibilitiesIdentify opportunities for innovation in existing control systems and apply automation.Review and suggest modifications to PLC code for the on-site controls team.Analyze data across multiple locations to find common themes and trends in PLC code.Create control systems templates for all sites.Consult material handling sites to drive innovation in automation and controls.Work independently with internal and external engineering teams to deliver high-quality projects.Partner with project managers and external vendors to set project priorities and establish milestones.Influence and review technical documentation content.Represent system and equipment designs to customers and other teams.Communicate project status and produce clear and concise project summaries.Develop good working relationships with vendors, engineers, managers, and peers.Participate in design reviews and support execution efforts between internal teams and outside vendors.Develop quality and performance test plans with internal teams.Build strong relationships with leadership and operations teams across multiple sites.Identify and lead process improvement initiatives within a geographic node.QualificationsProficiency in PLC programming, specifically Allen-Bradley.Experience in improving and modifying control systems for process improvements.Ability to manage outside vendors and review controls to their specifications.Knowledge of PLC, HMI, electrical codes, electrical standards, material handling, and conveyor systems.Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other STEM fields.Minimum of 4 years experience as a controls engineer, electrical engineer, process engineer, or project manager.Experience in managing material handling or automation projects.Design and implementation experience of electrical and/or controls areas in integrated automation solutions.Experience with Microsoft Office products: Excel, Project, and Outlook.Experience with SCADA/HMI development and implementation is preferred.Work Environment
This role offers a hybrid work environment with 3 days in the office and 2 days remote, requiring full-time office presence for the first month of training. Travel expectations include 25-50% travel, typically 2-3 days every 3 weeks, with a 50% travel requirement within a two-week period.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $45.00 - $65.00/hr.
