Controls Engineer
Job Title: Network and Virtual Server Infrastructure EngineerLocation: On-site (with travel to field sites as needed)Industry: Energy / UtilitiesDepartment: Operational Technology (OT) / ICS InfrastructurePosition Summary: We are seeking a skilled Network and Virtual Server Infrastructure Engineer to support the secure and efficient operation of natural gas pipeline facilities. This role involves deploying and maintaining critical infrastructure, ensuring regulatory compliance, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to support continuous operations in an ICS/OT environment. Key Responsibilities: + Engineer, deploy, and maintain network and virtual server infrastructure for pipeline monitoring. + Perform system upgrades and deployments with zero operational disruption. + Manage project resources and timelines across departments. + Ensure compliance with TSA and PSC cybersecurity regulations. + Secure communications between Critical Cyber Systems using ICS protocols and the Purdue Model. + Collaborate with internal teams to define and manage project requirements. + Troubleshoot OT application issues, equipment failures, and communication outages. + Design and deploy test environments for patch and update validation. + Manage identity and access control systems for OT infrastructure. + Administer and configure firewalls, routers, and switches. + Work with vendors for equipment procurement and issue resolution. + Specify and install network and virtual infrastructure components. + Oversee installation of physical communications media (fiber, CAT5/6). + Develop and maintain firewall policies aligned with CISA and TSA-SD2 standards. + Maintain technical documentation including network diagrams and asset inventories. + Act as a subject matter expert for TSA and PSC regulatory communications. + Evaluate equipment lifecycle and plan replacements and cost estimates. + Implement new technologies to enhance OT security and reliability. + Conduct risk assessments and penetration testing. + Develop and maintain cybersecurity policies and procedures. + Ensure vendor agreements meet cybersecurity compliance standards. Essential Skills: + Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field. + 5+ years of experience with enterprise and industrial-grade network infrastructure. + Deep understanding of SCADA systems and control environments. + Strong knowledge of networking (VLANs, segmentation, routing). + Proficiency in troubleshooting across all OSI model layers. + Experience with firewalls, switches, and routers. + Strong knowledge of network media (fiber, CAT5/6). + Ability to write clear technical documentation. + Fluent in written and verbal English. Preferred Qualifications: + Experience with PLC programming and ControlWave systems. + Background in Electrical Engineering. + Familiarity with the Purdue Model for ICS networks. + Experience with virtual machines, hypervisors, and bare metal servers. + Knowledge of process control and instrumentation systems. + Experience with federal and state regulatory agencies. + Proficiency with vulnerability and network scanning tools. + Self-motivated learner with ability to absorb training independently or in groups. Work Environment: This is a full-time onsite role, requiring presence five days a week. The position includes a 50/50 split between office work and field site visits. Travel is required as needed, with mileage reimbursement provided. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $100000.00 - $140000.00/hr.
