CONTROLS AUTOMATION ENGINEER

OBJECTIVEWe are seeking a skilled Automation Engineer to join our team and drive the development and implementation of advanced control systems for industrial clients. This role focuses on delivering comprehensive automation solutions from concept through commissioning, while fostering technical excellence and mentoring emerging talent within our engineering organization.
RESPONSIBILITIESDesign, configure, and deploy industrial control systems including PLCs, DCS, HMI, SCADA, and related automation technologies across diverse platforms Oversee complete project lifecycle from initial specifications through system startup and client handover Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including electrical design, instrumentation, and IT departments to ensure integrated solution delivery Conduct field commissioning activities, system testing, and troubleshooting at client facilities Serve as primary automation technical contact for clients spanning industries such as food & beverage, chemical processing, power generation, and manufacturing Participate in proposal development, cost estimation, and technical presentations for prospective projects Manage client expectations and provide regular project updates throughout implementation phases Conduct site assessments and technical consultations to identify automation opportunities Mentor junior and mid-level engineers in programming methodologies, system design principles, and client interaction best practices Lead technical training sessions and knowledge transfer activities Review and approve technical deliverables produced by team members Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and engineering standards development Prepare comprehensive technical documentation, including system specifications, user manuals, and project reports Ensure all work adheres to established health, safety, and environmental policies Maintain accurate project records and support quality assurance processes REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Controls, Chemical, or related discipline) or equivalent experience Minimum 7+ years of hands-on experience with industrial automation systems and control technologies Proficiency in multiple PLC/DCS platforms and programming languages Demonstrated ability to interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and control system documentation Experience with online programming, system uploads/downloads, and live process modifications Proven track record managing automation projects within scope, schedule, and budget constraints Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with attention to detail Experience identifying and communicating scope changes to project stakeholders Ability to work independently and make critical decisions under pressure Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and client presentations Demonstrated leadership experience in technical environments Strong customer service orientation and professional demeanor Willingness to travel up to 20% for site visits, commissioning activities, and client meetings Field experience with startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities Background working with OEMs, end users, and EPC contractors Flexibility to work overtime during critical project phases (compensated at standard hourly rates)
