Description Controller – Venture Capital 📍 Palo Alto, CA | Hybrid (3 days in-office, some remote flexibility) 💼 $150,000 – $200,000 base + Bonus Jennifer Fukumae is partnering with an early-stage venture capital firm investing in Pre-Seed, Seed, and Series A companies in the US. They are seeking a Controller as the firm scales into its next phase of growth. This is a unique opportunity to join a lean, startup-style finance team alongside some of the sharpest minds in venture, with a clear path to grow into a future CFO role. About the Role This isn’t a back-office role — it’s a chance to sit at the table with partners and founders while building the financial backbone of a top-tier VC. The Controller will take ownership of fund and management company accounting, streamline processes, and partner directly with leadership on fundraising, valuations, and strategic initiatives. Key Responsibilities + Oversee fund and management company accounting across entities. + Lead audits and tax filings, working with top-tier external providers. + Manage LP reporting, including capital calls, distributions, and investor dashboards. + Monitor cash flow and support capital planning. + Build and refine financial controls, processes, and systems to scale with the firm. + Assist with fund modeling, valuations, and fundraising prep. + Partner closely with the Founder and senior leadership on strategic finance projects. Requirements Ideal Candidate + 7–12+ years of finance/accounting experience, with exposure to venture capital or private equity fund finance. + Strong knowledge of GAAP, fund structures, and LP reporting. + Comfortable in a lean, entrepreneurial environment with shifting priorities. + CPA preferred; fund administrator and audit/tax relationship management required. + Ambitious, detail-oriented, and excited by the path toward a CFO role.
