Description We are looking for a dedicated and detail-oriented Controller to lead the financial operations of our construction business in Midlothian, Texas. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in accounting and QuickBooks, particularly in a small business environment. The Controller will play a vital role in managing financial processes, ensuring compliance, and driving strategic insights to support organizational growth.
Responsibilities:
• Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable and receivable, payroll processing, and general ledger management.
• Manage month-end and year-end closing procedures to ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Utilize QuickBooks to optimize financial functions, maintain accurate records, and reconcile accounts.
• Develop and implement job costing systems to monitor project expenses and profitability.
• Prepare detailed financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow analyses.
• Collaborate with leadership to create budgets and forecasts tailored to both company-wide and project-specific needs.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations, as well as other financial requirements.
• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance financial efficiency and reliability.
• Work closely with management to evaluate financial risks, uncover cost-saving opportunities, and improve overall profitability.
• Provide hands-on financial management in a small business setting, adapting to lean resources and multi-tasked operations. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of accounting experience, with a minimum of 2 years in the construction industry or a small business environment.
• Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks, including its application for construction and budgeting tasks.
• Strong understanding of small business accounting practices, including payroll and expense tracking.
• Knowledge of construction-specific accounting methods such as job costing and progress billing.
• Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
• Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and leadership.
• Familiarity with financial tools or construction software like Procore or Sage is a plus.
