Controller
Controller (Onsite – Hartford, CT) Contract-to-Hire | Six-Month Duration Position Overview This role is responsible for managing and maintaining all financial reporting for the organization, including flash reports, monthly financial summaries, committee reports, and other ad hoc reporting needs. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Controller oversees treasury functions, cash flow analysis, banking relationships, and financial software systems to ensure optimal performance and return on investments. The ideal candidate will bring over 10 years of accounting and financial experience, including at least 5 years in a senior financial management or controller role. Key Responsibilities + Collaborate with the CFO on financial planning, budgeting, and maximizing the use of allocated funds. + Assist in developing annual and multi-year budgets, evaluating financial performance, and recommending strategies for improvement. + Lead the finance team in reporting, revenue analysis, audits, tax filings, cash management, forecasting, and asset management. + Ensure compliance with federal and state tax regulations. + Facilitate cross-functional communication and workflow prioritization. + Serve as the primary liaison with banks, auditors, and financial software vendors. + Prepare and review flash reports, monthly committee reports, and year-end financial statements. + Generate special reports as requested by executive leadership. + Act as Senior Accountant for affiliated entities as needed. + Review program financial reports and income statements post-monthly close. Required Skills + Accounting, general ledger, reconciliation, month-end close + Financial reporting, journal entries, audit preparation + Accounts payable/receivable, GAAP compliance, balance sheet analysis Qualifications + Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA and/or Master’s degree strongly preferred. + Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, with at least 4 years in a senior financial leadership role. + Experience in public accounting or mission-driven organizations is a plus. + Proficiency in financial software, Windows, and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Word. + Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills. + Familiarity with federal financial regulations such as Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200) is preferred. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $39.42/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
