Description We are looking for an experienced Controller to oversee the financial operations of our family-owned furniture retail business in Norfolk, Virginia. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with a strong background in accounting and finance, ideally within manufacturing or a related industry. As a key member of the leadership team, the Controller will be instrumental in providing accurate financial reporting and strategic insights to support business decisions.
Responsibilities:
• Manage all accounting functions, including overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and the accuracy of the general ledger.
• Provide leadership and direction to the finance team, ensuring high performance and effective collaboration.
• Lead the annual preparation of operating and capital budgets, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
• Conduct operational and strategic analyses to recommend improvements for financial processes and business outcomes.
• Implement and enhance product costing methods, ensuring accurate bills of materials and proper allocation of labor and overhead costs.
• Prepare monthly and annual financial statements, along with specialized financial reports as needed.
• Establish and maintain consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures across the organization.
• Enforce internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with policies and workflows. Requirements • Minimum of 7 years of experience in accounting and financial management roles.
• Proficiency in accounting operations, including reconciliation, close processes, and journal entries.
• Strong knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and inventory accounting.
• Experience with cost accounting, including construction costs and work-in-progress tracking.
• Familiarity with fixed asset inventory and product costing methodologies.
• Expertise in using accounting software systems to streamline processes.
• Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
• Self-motivated and capable of working independently while driving initiatives forward.
