Description We are looking for an experienced Controller to join our team in Los Alamitos, California. This role is ideal for a skilled accounting expert with a strong background in the construction industry, who is eager to oversee financial operations and contribute to organizational success. The Controller will play a key role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, managing audits, and optimizing cost control processes.
Responsibilities:
• Manage and oversee month-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
• Monitor job costs and construction accounting practices to maintain profitability and compliance.
• Supervise payroll operations, cash management, and cost control measures across departments.
• Coordinate external audits, including financial, 401k, and insurance audits, while ensuring preparedness and accuracy.
• Collaborate with project management teams to analyze profitability and improve financial outcomes.
• Develop and implement process improvements to streamline accounting operations and enhance efficiency.
• Lead and mentor accounting staff, fostering growth and teamwork.
• Prepare and review tax filings and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Utilize accounting systems and Microsoft Office tools to manage and analyze financial data effectively.
• Support budgeting and forecasting efforts to align financial goals with business objectives. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required; CPA license is preferred but not mandatory.
• A minimum of 5 years of accounting experience with supervisory responsibilities.
• Proven expertise in construction accounting and cost control within mid to large-sized companies.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, along with experience using accounting systems.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage teams and coordinate across departments.
• Excellent communication abilities, both written and verbal, to convey financial information effectively.
• Demonstrated experience managing external audits and coordinating tax preparation.
• Knowledge of job costing, bill of materials (BOM), and construction cost practices.
