Robert Half is looking for an experienced Controller to oversee and manage the financial operations of a non-profit organization in Madison, Wisconsin. This critical role ensures the financial health and sustainability of the organization, supporting the mission through effective financial leadership and management. The Controller will guide budgeting, reporting, and compliance while fostering collaboration with leadership and the Board of Directors.
Responsibilities:
• Lead the organization's financial operations, including accounting, reporting, budgeting, audits, compliance, and asset management.
• Manage the annual budget ensuring alignment with organizational goals and fiscal responsibility.
• Develop and implement financial policies, ensuring adherence to GAAP and best practices.
• Oversee grant-related financial reporting and compliance, ensuring accurate and timely submissions.
• Prepare and analyze financial statements, key performance indicators, and other critical reporting documents.
• Direct financial and development software systems to optimize operational efficiency.
• Monitor and safeguard organizational assets, including property and investments.
• Provide financial insights and recommendations to leadership and the Board of Directors to support strategic decision-making.
• Supervise and mentor the finance team, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
• Lead the Finance Committee and support organizational objectives through flexible and adaptive contributions.
Requirements
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in financial management and accounting roles.
• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field
• CPA certification strongly preferred
• Expertise in GAAP accounting and financial reporting standards.
• Proven ability to perform account reconciliations and manage month-end close processes.
• Experience with month-end journal entries and preparing detailed reports.
• Strong background in budgeting, forecasting, and grant accounting.
• Knowledge of fixed asset management and compliance requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to manage and develop teams effectively.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
