Description We are looking for an experienced Consumer Loan Underwriter to join our team in Poughkeepsie, New York. In this long-term contract role, you will assess loan applications, ensuring compliance with lending policies while delivering exceptional service to members. This position offers a dynamic work environment where attention to detail and decision-making skills are essential. Responsibilities: • Evaluate consumer loan applications to approve, deny, or provide counter-offers in alignment with established lending policies and risk tolerance. • Ensure compliance with Truth in Lending regulations by issuing required documentation accurately and on time. • Maintain data integrity across all consumer loan systems while thoroughly documenting loan exceptions. • Provide clear and precise communication of loan decisions to members, both directly and indirectly. • Stay updated on industry regulations and maintain technical expertise to adapt to changes effectively. • Uphold organizational policies and participate in required training, including Bank Secrecy Act compliance. • Demonstrate teamwork and a commitment to excellence by contributing to organizational initiatives and projects. • Utilize loan systems to respond accurately to member inquiries regarding account and loan details. • Prioritize tasks effectively to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple responsibilities. • Apply advanced organizational skills to independently handle extended hours and make sound lending decisions. Requirements • Proven experience in the banking, credit union, or consumer loan industry. • Strong background in underwriting, including consumer and mortgage loan underwriting. • Proficiency with Symitar or similar loan processing platforms. • Solid understanding of lending policies, compliance requirements, and risk management. • Ability to perform basic mathematical functions with accuracy. • Skilled in using Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. • Exceptional communication and organizational skills to manage multiple priorities effectively. • Ability to interpret complex documents, policies, and procedures with attention to detail.
