**Job Summary and Qualifications**
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consulting Database Administrator (DBA) to lead the design, implementation, and management of enterprise-grade database solutions across hybrid environments. This role demands deep technical expertise, strategic thinking, and a proactive approach to performance optimization, automation, and high availability.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**
Architect and manage SQL Server environments across on-premises, Azure, and GCP platforms, including AlwaysOn Availability Groups, geo-replication, and multi-region HA/DR strategies.
Lead modernization and migration efforts involving Azure SQL, GCP Cloud SQL, and PostgreSQL, ensuring seamless transitions with minimal downtime.
Optimize database performance using Query Store, DMVs, and index tuning, while conducting regular health checks, backups, patching, and upgrades.
Automate operational workflows with PowerShell, Terraform, and CI/CD tools to support infrastructure as code and streamlined deployments.
Collaborate cross-functionally with development, DevOps, and application teams to refine schema design, tune queries, and integrate database best practices into CI/CD pipelines.
Ensure security and compliance through robust access controls, encryption, audit logging, and adherence to standards such as GDPR, HIPAA, and internal governance policies.
Enhance observability and diagnostics using tools like Dynatrace and Redgate Monitor for performance tuning and root cause analysis.
Conduct architectural assessments and capacity planning, identifying optimization opportunities and mitigating risks through proactive DR drills and forecasting.
Provide 24x7 support, including on-call participation and incident resolution for high-severity issues to maintain continuous availability.
**TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS**
Expert-level proficiency in SQL Server 2016+ with specialization in AlwaysOn, replication, and advanced T-SQL optimization.
Cloud-native and hybrid experience with Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and GCP Cloud SQL/PostgreSQL.
Strong infrastructure knowledge, including Windows Server, clustering, Active Directory, virtualization, Cisco UCS, and NUMA-aware configurations.
Automation and monitoring expertise using PowerShell, Terraform, Dynatrace, and Redgate Monitor.
Proficient in enterprise data protection and recovery leveraging DDBoost and Commvault solutions
Proven leadership in operational resilience, change management, incident response, and cross-functional collaboration.
**OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES**
Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
Customer-focused mindset with a commitment to exceeding expectations.
Tactical execution and ownership of deliverables.
Effective in a highly matrixed, team-oriented environment.
Expertise in backup/recovery strategies and performance tuning in complex infrastructures.
Deep understanding of database security, partitioning, compression, encryption, and DR strategies.
Experience supporting databases throughout the full SDLC.
**What qualifications you will need:**
**EDUCATION**
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related field – Preferred
**EXPERIENCE**
7 or more years of hands-on experience in database administration and engineering – Required
Demonstrated ability to manage the full database lifecycle—from design and implementation to support and optimization - Required
