Consultant - Impact Assessment & Biodiversity

ERM is seeking a motivated Consultant – Impact Assessment/ Biodiversity to join our team in Bucharest.

Location: Bucharest, Romania

Job Type: Permanent, Full-time

Important: this role is mostly desktop, with limited field visits, more about managing experts in the field, processing analysis of data and producing biodiversity related studies, as described below. 

About the Role:

Biodiversity and Ecological Services Impact Assessment and Permitting Environmental and Social Due DiligenceField baseline data collection (if required) / managing of subcontractors (biodiversity experts in the field)Impact assessment and mitigation measures to feed the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA), Appropriate Assessments/ Critical Habitats studies in line with Romanian / EU as well as with requirements of international lenders (IFC-International Financing Corporation, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Equator Principles 4 etc.)Management of typical environmental impactsContribute to Environmental and Social Due Diligence Assessments (ESDDs) as part of financing processes by international lenders (PS/ PR6)Preparation of Critical Habitats assessment, Ecosystem services assessments, Biodiversity Management Plans, Biodiversity Action Plans, Invasive Species Management Plans as per IFC PS6, EBRD PR6Monitoring and evaluation of progress against commitments made in the EIA / ESIASupport preparation of sections in the proposals, under the guidance of line manager and proposal managersExperience with renewables and mining projects will be an advantageSupports projects deliveryEstablish and maintain strong working relationships with clients through project deliveryConduct and coordinate client meetings for both project delivery and business developmentPreparation of GIS mapsEtc., as required, under ERM guidance and on the job / dedicated trainings.

Ideal Candidate:

University degree/ Master of Science in Ecology / Biology or a related disciplineMinimum of 3 years’ experience in biodiversity impact assessment and permitting projectsKnowledge and/or experience in the following areas is required: biodiversity and ecological services (both field work/ baseline data collection and desktop assessments based on national and international standards, e.g. EBRD, IFC). Ideally specialized in birds, bats and habitats. Familiar with Appropriate assessments, Birds & Habitats EU Directives, EBRD PR6/ IFC PS6Knowledgeable of GIS mappingFluency in English and Romanian. Advance knowledge of German and/ or other languages would be an advantageFamiliar with Romanian permitting procedures (EIA, EA, SEA, environmental permit)Previous experience in a similar consulting environment would be an advantageProject management skills Commitment to excellence, and to health and safety Excellent communication (both verbal and written) skills Team playerAbility to work under pressure and deal with multiple tasks and projects in parallel, under strict budgets and deadlinesInterpersonal skills and team orientationWillingness to travel and perform work in country and internationally (special focus in Hungary)Excellent computer skills are a mustDriving license and willingness to drive on-site if necessary
