Overview
Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking experienced Construction Special Inspectors throughout New Jersey to join our Talent Network for future project opportunities. While this is not an active opening, we encourage qualified candidates to apply so we can consider you as new roles become available.
As part of our Talent Network, your application will be reviewed for upcoming projects that require certified inspectors to support public infrastructure, land development, and transportation construction across the state.
Colliers Engineering & Design's Construction Special Inspectors perform third-party independent construction special inspections and material testing services, including, but not limited to, earthwork (soil), foundation (shallow/deep), concrete reinforcement, concrete testing and placement, structural masonry, structural steel, spray-applied fireproofing (fire-proofing, fireproof), firestopping (fire-stopping, fire-resistant), and asphalt.
Positions are generally available at our offices across New Jersey, the New York Metro area, Delaware, and Eastern Pennsylvania (including Philadelphia and Lehigh Valley). Projects are mainly located in these regions, though some travel might be needed.
Responsibilities
+ Perform construction observation and material testing services that meet or exceed industry standards.
+ Verify contractor compliance with building codes and project-approved documents, specifications, and drawings.
+ Obtain or renew certifications as relevant to experience (training and incentives provided by the company).
+ Read drawings, follow directions, and interpret engineering and construction plans.
+ Work outside year-round, walk on uneven ground, and carry up to 75 pounds of equipment.
+ Availability to work weekends and nights as needed; ability to work out of town is a plus.
+ Basic proficiency with technology such as smartphones, laptops, and related software.
Qualifications
+ High school diploma or AA/AS degree required; engineering or science background (associate’s or bachelor’s degree) preferred but not required.
+ Entry-level to 20+ years of relevant experience.
+ Certifications preferred or willingness/ability to obtain one or more of the following:
+ Nuclear Soil Gauge Certification
+ ACI Field Concrete Grade I
+ ICC or ACI Certification in Reinforced Concrete
+ ICC Certifications in Soils, Structural Masonry, Structural Steel Welding or Bolting, and/or Spray-On Fireproofing
+ ICC Certification as a Commercial or Residential Building Inspector
+ AWS Certification in Structural Steel Welding
+ EDI Certification in EIFS
+ NJDCA and/or Philadelphia L&I Approved Special Inspector (SI) Certification
+ NECEPT/NJSAT Asphalt Field/Plant Certification
+ Welding experience preferred; AWS-CWI and/or ANST Level II in PT, MT, and UT is a plus for structural steel inspector roles.
+ Wood construction experience preferred for structural wood framing inspector positions.
+ Strong basic math skills.
+ Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
+ Drug testing may be required.
+ Knowledge of AutoCAD is a plus.
+ Hands-on construction experience is highly valuable for performing special inspections.
+ Ability to read, write, and understand English to comprehend job-related written communications and verbal instructions.
Compensation: $17-$31/hr DOQ
